Is anybody else crediting their BA flights to AY? Do we know the average time the points take to credit to the AY account?

My BA flights all took about 3 days as did the Malaysia one.

However the SYD-LHR BA flight in D has not credited after two weeks so just raised a claim on it in the Finnair site. It immediately shows in the transaction history as “Pending” and the readme says it should post (or change to Rejected) in 2-4 weeks.

I have opened a Finnair plus account and reassigned my BA flights to them to earn TPs. I was denied access to the lounge at Gatwick unless they added my silver status BA club number to the boarding card flying my return flight from LGW to St Kitts in World Traveller Plus. I am not sure if it had my new no status Finnair number attached to the boarding pass or it was “blank”. I didn’t let them as I want to credit the TPs to my new Finnair Plus account. I did explain what I was trying to do but the BA staff at the desk weren’t helpful. They weren’t denying access they just said I had to add my BA number to the boarding card. Should I have let them do it? Would it have changed which scheme the TPs were credited?
The outward journey from St Kitts to LGW had credited correctly to Finnair plus I notice in the Finnair app and I can see the return flight too. I did go into the lounge as my partners guest but I wondered if the denial might be because it is the second return leg of my flight? Not sure how I will make this work for lounge access based on my BA silver status for the rest of the year but crediting the TPs to my Finnair plus account. It doesn’t seem to have been a problem for others but maybe something has changed?

Did you show them your Silver membership card on your BA app? Otherwise you have your BA number on the booking until you get into the lounge, then log into MMB on a site like Royal Air Maroc and change it to your Finnair number while still in the lounge

Changing after you are in the lounge seems to be the safe way to do it…

Claimed for the missing SYD to LHR flight on Friday, two weeks after landing in London. Woke up today to the miles added to the account and Finnair gold. So far so good.

i flew out of Gatwick on Thursday, with my Finnair Plus # on my ticket. I arrived at the lounge and couldn’t even get the app to open (shocker), but i know my BAC # off by heart… i quoted that, but the guy wasn’t too fussed and let me through into the Gold lounge anyway (i’m BA Gold). Seemed pretty chilled but it could just be a case of HUACA kinda deal

Well, I credited my outbound flight to HND on 6th April to AY and nothing yet. I raised a claim and still nothing. I flew return to RAK on BA and credited all to AY. Again, nothing showing after a full week. Should I raise a claim too? Seems ridiculous…

Yes I showed the silver card on the app but the representative just said “it” won’t let you in without the BA number on the booking. My Finnair number was on my paper boarding card so maybe I should have let them change it? I think, as suggested, changing it after lounge entry is safest but it seems a lot of hassle to gain access that you are entitled too according to their own rules.

They were finally credited! It took them about 10 days…

Keeping this one up to date until reaching Finnair Platinum/Oneworld Emerald.

Flew LGW->MCO on an AA ticket on BA in R then MCO to MIA on AA in F.

Missed my MIA->LHR AA/BA connection due to weather and was initially booked on an Iberia flight via Madrid same day which I also missed then the same Iberia flight next day which I got changed to the AA/BA direct flight – AA customer service was excellent getting this sorted. Nightmare with BA though as I could not check in or book a seat as the BA systems were showing me on both the MIA->MAD->LHR and MIA->LHR flights – go figure.

All miles credited OK and within 2 days but interestingly the rebooked MIA->LHR flight credited at the J rate not R so 12,705 not 7,622.

Now have 73,526/80,000 tier points needed for Finnair Platinum/OWE.

Next booked OW flight is LHR->LAX return in A in a few months but I’ll probably let that one credit to BA as it is 15,652 Avios on the way out as Gold and 17,013 on the way back as Platinum on Finnair as opposed to over 39k on BA as Gold. I’ll likely fly OW again to get the extra points and if not can always buy the missing tier points for 22,422 avios plus 10 Euro.

Alternative is to let one or both legs credit to Finnair and get Finnair Platinum/OWE on that trip.

    @domf
That is a fantastic report, we are heading to AY also, as will never retain status on BAC… glad its all worked out for you. Our first try is LGW BOD LGW this weekend, so getting to grips with AY is tricky enough for us…. But great guidance, thanks for posting such detail.

Keeping this thread updated: booked LHR-BLR on 19 June on BA with my BAC number on the booking to reserve seats and use the F wing. Once I was in F lounge I used X to contact BA and asked them to remove my BAC number from the booking, then used Fiji to add my AY number. Checked my booking again on BA.com and it showed my AY number on it. Electronic boarding pass did not update but I didn’t bother asking for a new paper one, just took a screenshot of my booking.

It took 7 days for TP’s to post to my AY account. My seat reservation did not drop off the return leg so I left the booking with my AY number on it. Got back yesterday, so waiting for return TP’s to post. I believe Fiji no longer works to add/change FF numbers, so will try BA.com on my next flight.

When you contact BA no need to ask them only to remove the BA FF info – they will also add your Finnair if you ask.

BA CS offered to do this without me asking, but I said no as I read on another forum that it was not done properly by the agent and the flight still ended up crediting to BA. I got trust issues with these folks! Did it work for you?

    Short Answer: YES.

Long Answer: I have had to claim the miles a couple of times as they have not posted, but have never had them post to BA after they removed it. You can also see the FF info online in the BA portal after they have changed it – I screenshot that and keep it.

Qualification status update: Flew to Cape Town for 3 days last week but out on KLM via AMS and back on LH via FRA so no progress here.

Flew out of and into LGW at the beginning of July to/from RAK. It took them a week to credit the miles but I’m almost gold. Flying to LAX in W next week and return in J in August. Another step closer to Platinum. I may not need to buy miles with Avios which is great.

The only annoying thing of this little game is that I get my BA FF removed as soon as I select a seat (1D/1F) which then leads to being bumped off those seats a few days later… so annoying but I don’t want to have to deal with BA CS at the airport… I guess there’s no other solution than sucking it up until I’m at least Plat with AY right? I don’t have Twitter, I don’t use social media. Should I get my FF number removed by online chat when in the lounge? But sometimes I’m in the middle of work, meetings etc. and don’t really have the mind space to deal with this.

Anyway, first world (or class?) problems.

Ok will give BA a shot next time. I don’t mind retro-claiming, just don’t want the hassle of moving points from 1 program to another.

My return TP’s took 6 days to post to AY+.

Quick update. Off to Orlando for work and have extended it for a few days for leisure – so LGW->MCO on 2/8 and MCO->LGW on 9/8. These are discounted Business in I.

Each leg would earn approx. 7,496 points on Finnair so either leg will move me from Gold to Platinum so I am going to let the outbound credit to BA (as that gives more Avios than Finnair) and more importantly protects my return seat where I have one of the few seats where you don’t have to step over someone or be stepped over for the overnight return, then change the return flight to credit to Finnair after I am in the lounge in MCO.

Lastly that also allows me to credit the LHR->LAX->LHR First (A) in September to BA which is a lot more Avios than on Finnair.

This does show how absurd the situation is though. I will have achieved Oneworld Emerald via Finnair in exactly 4 months and 3 days (and it would be under 4 months if I credited the outbound to Finnair) while flying almost entirely on BA whereas I was concerned I would not retain BA Gold.

The way it has worked out I almost certainly would have retained BA Gold by the end of the year but would not have been close to it yet.

I have tried 3 ways – all successful:

    1) Phone BA – inconvenient but works

    2) BA chat on website – can multi task this with work

    3) Ask the lounge staff as you checkin to the lounge – I have done this successfully in BA, Qantas and Malaysian lounges though I suspect it depends on who you get. My line has been simply to get them to confirm access then say “Hey can you update my FF details to Finnair please – I need the miles to credit there”. Remember that Finnair is AY as a) it is not obvious and b) They don’t all know that.

Update. Currently sitting in the lounge in BOS waiting for a Jet Blue flight to TPA. Our LGW->MCO yesterday was diverted initially to YYT (St Johns) but finally to BOS due to an onboard medical emergency. Plane is currently transatlantic on it’s way back to London empty.

Miles/points were on my BA account and presumably I should get the same miles as I would have had we gone to MCO as it’s price based not distance. Additionally I think I get some points on Jet Blue where I have Mosaic 1 (their lowest status).

Return flight on 9/8 will be booked to Finnair and tip me over into Platinum.

I guess that’s one of the few advantages of the new system, no need to think about ORC and the rescue flights may earn you more too
