Hi All,
Since HfP’s articles on Finnair adopting avios we’ve recently seen more details come out and it doesn’t look great for finnair Plus members in terms of status points. Also being called tier points which is going REVENUE based. Oh dear. Without thorough analysis not sure all these changes are good whatsoever. They will adopt Avios on 9-11th March but it seems ability to transfer avios to from BA will be “later in Spring” annoyingly.

I hope this is not a sign of things to come with BA but I suspect it might be
Looks like there’s more details on how to book Avios flights via Finnair. Seems a bit like a hybrid of the BA and Qatar processes.
“You can book British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Qantas and Qatar Airways flights directly through our website’s booking engine or by clicking the airline name below and choosing Book award flights. To book award flights with other airlines, please contact us via our Chat service on the bottom right corner or call our customer service.”

Unless things have changed I inderstood combine my avios would be available within days of AY+ avios launch so I was hoping by weekend or the week after.
You can earn status on BA and just transfer avios to AY if you like. Personally I credit most OW revenue flights to Alaska MP.
I imagine most using AY will be flying to Far East. The new AY+award chart offers a lot of value here when compared to QR and BA, in some cases even BA with a voucher. Value on AY is especially good if a zone 1 to Asia reward can be made work for you. Value is also good on CX, especially if connections are included but I think this remains unclear. 64k avios on Sri Lanka J to CMB is also decent.
All in all there reward chart combines decent rates with lower fees than BA or QR but there will be nuances to puck out.
If AY+ AY rewards are the attraction then Alaska MP is the most attraction option. I explained on Chat last Night how to get SE Asia to UK in J for just under £800.
@BJ how easy is it to earn status with Alaska MP? Is it possible without flying on any Alaska metal?
@AJA, I’m not sure as status does not interest me at all. It used to be 2 flights on Alaska metal but I think that has now changed and you might not need any.
How many Avios with AY EDI – BKK work out at?
How many Avios with AY EDI – BKK work out at?
You mean upcoming redemption on AY via AY+? Business will be 62.5k avios from HEL or connecting flights from zone 1. EDI/UK is zone 2 so add 12k/24k I think it is for connecting flights in Y/J.
Via Alaska MP it’s 60k miles + co-payment. Co-payment back from BKK is $48 BKK-EDI but I did not see any J availability in December to check fees for EDI-BKK direction but it’s less than QR from memory.
This is interesting.
I need to come back from HEL in the summer. It’s the respositioning flight of an ex EU. Wont havr baggage etc
Flight on AY is a lot lower than the cash price BA charge but the AY fare is their ‘lite’ fare so no seat selection or lounge as parr of the fare.
But I’m One World Emerald so does that give me lounge and seat selection?
@BFIS, yes for both seat selection and lounge access.
Check if equivalent reward flight value is beter than lite fare on AY.
Note that on my longhaul redemption of late AY lets me select seats on the short sector for free but not on long sector.
I purchased 100k finnair points last September when they had that offer so I’m very keen to see the combine my avios activate soon so I can get thm into my BAEC account
