Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club First flights with Avios and vouchers cancelled

  • 20 posts

    Morning

I’ve just had the email through from BA

I had four first tickets to Philadelphia booked for mid august, just been cancelled.

Do they have to provide four spaces in first for the change of travel? And if they don’t do they have a certain level of compensation have to provide?

Thought I read in one of Rob’s emails that for first changes it was pretty heavy

Have they rebooked you onto another flight?

There are lots of threads on here with the fine detail on these issues but in a nutshell you are entitled to be re-routed in F, however the issue might be finding another airline offering that cabin on that route (I would have thought AA the most likely). Or you could ask BA to put you on another of their flights at a different time or date. Downgrade compensation might be complicated as you’re not technically being downgraded here so do some research before accepting alternative flights in a different cabin.

Once you’ve researched and thought about your options, You First should be able to help you over the phone and hopefully it should be fairly quick to reach them. BA may have dropped First on that route, as for many others. If you still want to travel in F, You First may be able to open up F seats on an alternative route with a domestic connection to Philadelphia, even if award seats aren’t available. It is worth doing your own research first so you know exactly what to ask for.

If you do actually end up being downgraded, Lady London and others could give helpful advice, but do ask You First to note on your booking that it was not your choice.

If your flight number is still operating but you are in Club now you may want to stick with it, you’ll get a 75% refund due to the downgrade

One option for First may be to Newark or JFK, this should be allowed under the “300 mile” rule and not require Avios availability

    Thanks all
Get my info together and call You First
We’re heading to NYC as it is, so going direct certainly an option
