Hi everyone,
Looking for some quick insights on First class redemption availability LHR <-> MIA for 2 passengers between now and July. I’m a BA Gold member, which I believe opens up additional Economy availability, and I’m using an Amex companion voucher, which opens up additional Club World seats—but neither affects availability in First. Can someone confirm?
From my understanding, First availability isn’t guaranteed and can vary a lot. Checking SeatSpy, I only see occasional single-seat availability popping up in the next few weeks, then nothing afterward. Are these seats likely cancellations, or does BA typically restrict First redemptions on this route to just one seat at a time?
Thanks!
From what I can gather, F redemptions to MIA have become rare – did they cut one of the services at some point?
I got 3 x F at T-355 a few years ago but 2 weeks before our departure date, the world went into lockdown, and I’ve never seen such availability since …
You need to double check anything showing on SeatSpy, especially F availability, and especially if all F is showing as only 1 seat. That’s a bit of a red flag that it might be wrong (as SeatSpy sometimes is!)
Yes you get extra Y and J as per what you said.
If your priority is flying F, consider JFK/BOS/IAD etc to where there is usually good F availability and connect to MIA.
Quite a lot of availability to Atlanta as well (longer F flight, terrible lounge for the return journey). Use the BA app on your mobile as that lets you search over a wide range and by country as well as specific city.
Apparently 2 F seats MIA-LHR on 28th October.
ATL, PHX and DFW often have F availability, but I look at it that with east coast you get CCR, 8 hours of F, plus you can use the least amount of avios to get to the US, especially off-peak. So 68k avios to get to JFK as opposed to 85k to ATL. Also with T3 departures, like ATL, you can’t use the CCR in T5.
I looked to upgrade from Club World to Business for our Miami/Orlando trip in May 2025.
However, upon booking our flights there was never any availability. So not sure if the cabin was already fully booked. The option to upgrade was never made available after we booked on the BA website. It was continuously greyed out.
Anyway, were happy to settle with Club World.
It seems as though First is now only operated on a few very select routes.
Side note – my first proper visit to the US! Normally we only transit through, so we are excited to see what this visit has in store for us.
Rare. Got 2 Avios tickets on F back in 2020 on the 747. LHR-MIA return. And I paid cash for 2 tickets in F return which completed the task of 4 travelling. Wasn’t unreasonable back then. Then Covid cancelled it…..not really seen it since for the dates we like to go.
@harrysjones21, do you mean Club World/business to First? You’re talking about two different things there, though. BA did cut the number of flights with an F cabin following the pandemic, so that obviously means you’ll never see F awards on those services, though it’s not as restricted as a very select few.
Whether F availability appears on routes with an F cabin can be gauged to some extent by the method of using EF over on the other current thread about F redemptions. You can always be fairly certain of finding JFK/BOS and a few others; other routes are more difficult. I don’t think MCO was ever an F route, though, so there was never a chance on that one!
@NorthernLass I just noticed that. Yes, I meant to say from Club World to First!
A simple search shows MIA First reward seat(s) available on four days in the next couple of weeks, then nothing at all apart from two odd days in April.
If anything is going to come up for May it won’t be until shortly beforehand. As noted MCO has no First, so limited chances there!
There are 30 or so routes with First, I don’t think the ratio has changed significantly in recent years, although the number of seats has reduced with mostly 8 seat cabins instead of 14.
