Forums Payment cards American Express Fraud on my card

  • 398 posts

This morning I must dropped my BAPP in the car park of the store I just shopped in and used it at. An hour later I find £7.80 has been spent in that same store and far more online at some place called Shein. I’ve reported to Amex. Are they usually good at wiping the dodgy charges or am I likely to be liable?

You are not liable unless you are “grossly negligent”, and that would require something like the PIN to have been written on paper and stored with the card, or given to another party.

Ok well it definitely wasn’t that thankfully. Bit concerned Shein purchase went through without the verification usually required whenever I buy anything.

You are unlucky*2 here. Not only you lost your card, it was also found by a crook.

You should be ok, but do you not get 2 FA with online purchasers at new retailers?

    You’ll be fine.
Someone ordered bedroom stuff with my BAPP, but I got it all refunded no problem, and a new card issued a few days later.

I find it weird that someone would order online at a legit website and hope it will not be stopped in time or not be traceable to them when it has to be delivered to their home/a store with CCTV nearby.

Sorry that it happened to you Amy C !

Probably why the scoundrels chose Shein and not John Lewis

Yes I do, that’s why I am confused their first attempt at Shein went through, or seems to, as I have definitely never shopped there.

I’m thinking the Shein stuff could probably be sent to a pick up point and not their home address.

Glad I discovered it gone only about 40 mins later or they could have been all day spending away! Amex were very helpful I must say. I miss my card already, was going to possibly book a flight to IST on it today 🙁

Thanks for the reassurance anyway everyone.
