Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Free domestic business leg with Economy long-haul to/from USA

Noticed when booked the No1 son and family back from the USA in Economy that there was a long connection at Heathrow to Edinburgh.

So using the “stopover” option, and continuing on the day of arrival at LHR, it came up with space on an earlier LHR-EDI flight in Club Europe, but not Economy.

But the avios price has turned out the same! 35,000 each plus £75. Don’t know if this has happened because it was a peak day – so avios 35k instead of 30k, and that confused the system – or just a generous glitch.

So they all get home 2.5hrs early, with a decent snack on the flight. Happy Christmas!

ps. Looked the other way, EDI-LHR-USA and the same applied.

Plus lounge access at LHR whatever that’s worth, maybe a little free booze to ease the journey.

I’ve mentioned it on here a couple of times – it’s been like that since BA introduced RFS on economy long haul and domestic connections became totally free once again. I usually book F or CW out and PE back, so it gives me lounge access and CE privileges at LHR on the way home.

I think it’s a glitch that they’ve never noticed or bothered to rectify so maybe we shouldn’t mention it too often!

Used it recently when going out, CE domestic connection with long haul in economy. Was offered lounge access as well at LHR, when asked nicely.

I believe it’s an entitlement not something that’s granted on a whim.

I came back from Rio in 1st, with an club domestic connection but still got Concorde lounge during the layover.

@davefl your situation is indeed covered by the OneWorld rules – the class of the long haul determines the lounge access while you wait for your short haul sector.
