Hi, me again….. I am looking to book flights via the BA website 3 times flights each way. Of the 6 flights in total only 2 are BA the rest are American Airlines. I am booking Business Class and I have Silver Status. Normally I can select my seats at time of booking at no extra charge via BA. However, when I went to book the indication was I could only pre book seats on the 2 x BA flights not giving me the option for the AA flights. So I aborted the booking to seek advice for you guru’s. If I go forward with the booking will I be able to book my seats with AA after I complete my booking without charge or will I be charged by AA to pre book my seats? I am thinking that maybe I couldn’t book at time of booking because I would have to be directed to the AA website. So anyone have any experience of this? Will I be able to pre book AA seats at no extra charge once I have completed the booking? Many thnaks
Once you’ve booked your AA flight, you can go into MMB and ask to select your seat. You will then be taken to the AA website to do this.
However, I’ve only ever done this where the AA flight was a standalone booking, it’s not clear from your post whether your AA leg is part of a larger booking including some BA flights, so I can’t say that it would work exactly the same way if so.
I did this today on a complex booking invvolving BA, AA and WestJet with the added complexity of upgrading using Avios. I was automatically allocated sensible seats on the AA flight but could (and did) change these immediately after booking.
Hi, thank you. The 6 legs are all booked via BA website so will be one booking. I suspect, as you say, once i book then I will be able to go in to MMB and be directed to the AA website so i can pick the seats I wanted. It was one of those moments, my brain froze when I couldn’t book the seats for AA. So I will go ahead and make the booking and hopefully I can pick the seats myself. Many thanks
You will have a separate AA booking ref which you’ll need to manage the AA flights by the AA app where yiu can select seats, meals (if applicable) and do check in etc.
When you pass through from BA to AA it should appear in the bottom left of the screen in the BA website so make a note of it.
It’s not a problem that the AA flights are a part of a BA booking. I do this all the time.
ok brilliant – thank you all for your advice 🙂
If you look at the American web-site you can actually seat availability on flights before you book them. I’ve attempted to include a link here
and then choose “view seatmap”. With BA Silver you will be able to choose both Main Cabin Extra and Preferred Seats once you have completed your BA booking. As mentioned by BA Flyer above you will need to do this on the AA site using their own MMB with your AA booking reference.
Thank you Lyn for the link etc. I will give it a go today 🙂
