We booked a flight on Malaysia Airlines through BA executive club with Avios.
At the time of booking i couldnt put my Royal Jordanian account number in , it just let me set it as the BA number.
I want to use the Royal Jordanian status so i can preselect our seats.
I phoned BA and the lady happily changed to BA code over to the RJ club number.
When i log into BA executive club to view the booking there isnt an option , so i use the booking reference and log into the Malaysia Airlines website.
Within the Malaysia website i can find the booking and i can select the seating , the problem is , they want to charge me for selecting the seats ?
I thought that with Royal Jordanian Gold Sparrow (sapphire equivalent) you are meant to get free seat selection ?
I know im not the main booker but i didnt think that was an issue either
Does anyone have any advice on what i can do here to prebook some seats and not have to pay
Is there anything im doing wrong ?
Have you added RJ number or is BA number still in? With RJ number in you’ll be getting free seat selection – I did this just yesterday.
It was set as the BA number , then i phoned BA yesterday and she manually changed it when i was on the phone to her. It now shows up on the booking as the RJ number , but still not letting me pick the seats for free …
Seat selection on QR worked perfectly for me. I was able to book one of the preferred seats at the front (that cost extra as plain Burgundy) free of charge 🙂
I have a similar issue. Following the recommendation, I got RJ Gold Sparrow status using the status match with IHG Diamond Elite. I also have BA Bronze membership.
I already had future BA bookings where my BA number was recorded. I want to change that to the RJ one so I can select my seats but there appears to be no way to do this online? Am I right?

You should be able to enter your booking details on Royal Air Maroc and change the FFP there.
Pangolin
I am confused. What has Royal Air Maroc got to do with it??
@Ian-L That’s the only OW airline website where MMB will allow you to manage FFP info for any other OW airline booking. I believe Finnair also used to work but that route was shut down a little while ago. RAM does work even if the website sometimes says it hasn’t saved your changes – when you check the RJ FFP number is in. I have done this half a dozen times now and it does work
How new is your RJ status? If recently obtained, it may not have synced across all oneworld airlines yet, and MH may not know you’re Sapphire. Try calling MH to ask for seats?
I believe the issue here is that MH do not give free seat selection to OW Sapphire members. Only applies for Emeralds. I have a vague memory of paying for seats as a BA Silver.
Re the 2 posts today, my flight is with BA not MA.
Thanks to Tootsci and Pangolin. I will try the RAM route.
My P2 Gold status had to be “activated” by RJ and it took three days of emailing for them to make it happen and in the end I asked the RJ team to add the FF number to the BA booking. Worked well once that was done and I was able to add it to QR.
