Forums Other Car rental Free second driver on BA Avis booking

  • 116 posts

Having made a car hire booking using the BA Avis link I can’t see on the confirmation anything about the free second driver. It was on the booking pages but I wondered where to find it in case I turn up at the location and they want to charge me again for a second driver. This happened to us once before but was a very short booking so, instead of arguing, we just stuck with one driver. This is a longer booking for over a week so we’d like to have the two drivers without any hassle on collection.
Thanks for any advice on this.

This has happened to us as well – no confirmation so we printed off the page where it says you will get a second driver and took it with us. This turned out to be a good idea as the rental office didn’t know about it and wanted to charge us!

When I picked mine up in Austin downtown I was told there was a free second driver and asked who did I want to add. So as always it’s down to the person between screen and keyboard.

    Always have paper copies though.

Thanks. Sounds like there is nowhere that the information is stored on the confirmation. Good to know that at least I’m just not finding it!

I am going to Iceland in May and just went to my email confirmation and if you click on Print Product Vouchers, you can then print your car rental voucher and if you scroll all the way to the bottom, it says BA Executive Club members get 1 free additional driver per rental. Hope that helps.

Bizarrely the only time I’ve ever had this questioned was at Heathrow T5!!! Otherwise they seem to be able to see it. Good idea to take a print out though just in case

Some US states have state law that detail no cost second drivers for all car hire providers.

Yes. Generally as well you can add your spouse (or they can drive without being added anywhere)

Every time I book with Avis I seem to end up disputing additional charges. Last time it was for fuel, for which I sent photographic evidence that the return fuel level matched what it was at collection, not what they had recorded.

So if you don’t want to leave yourself open take and keep evidence of everything. 🙂

On that note, definitely worth having evidence of the free additional driver to show them.

Had the same with two recent Avis rentals:

    – First one in Cancun: since the voucher is in MEX and the price of the car in USD there was a change on the exchange rate between the day I took the car and the day I returned it. They obviously had to remove that

    – Second in LAX where I returned the car and was told it was all good only to get an email 2 days later with a $15 charge for refueling. Thankfully I had made a photo of the fuel gauge so could claim the money back
