Forums Payment cards Barclaycard Avios Full account switch – sole to joint – am I eligible?

  • 1 post

    Hi All
First time poster, long time lurker.

I’ve recently opened a joint premier account with Barclays – it is my first current account with Barlcays.
I understand that i need to enrol in the Avios rewards programme and then do an account switch to be eligible for the 25k bonus points.
I want to understand if a sole -> joint account switch would qualify for the bonus points, if so I can just switch an old account of mine which I don’t use any more.

I asked Barclays webchat and was told they’d get back to me, no one did. I called premier support, and he hesitantly said any account switch qualifies, he didn’t fill me with confidence. I’d like to think a note was left on my account that I could point to if they said I wasnt eligiable but that too sounds like an argument I’d rather avoid.

The account switching service in the app and on the website will only allow for a sole account -> sole account or sole account -> joint account. Ideally I’d like to transfer a joint account -> joint account however going into a branch is a real faff, it’s easier just to contact those companies I have direct debts with and move them myself.

Has anyone had experience doing a sole -> joint account switch and qualifying for the bonus points?

Once a CASS has been accepted the outcome is the same regardless of the type of source account.

The only difference with soles and joints is that joints can’t be switched to soles – but this is just something that’s checked at the very start of the application (when the receiving organisation contacts the losing organisation).
