Hello HFPers. I need to get to Las Vegas in late April and want to maximise Tier Points as I’m very close to Silver.
I’ve tried my usual tricks looking for cheap flights via google flights but have not found a lot. The only option seems to be to go to LAX, via Helsinki which is cheaper and will add some TPs. I’m happy to drive from LAX if needed. But – I feel like there must be a better routing than that. If possible I’d quite like to go premium.
How do I go about finding it? Any tips? Thanks in advance.
How many tier points do you actually need?
A straight LHR-LAS return would get you 180 in PE for example
Flying via LAX would get you between 5 and 20 extra each way more depending on fare bucket on the domestic connection
LHR – HEL would generate between 10 and 40 each way again depending on economy fare bucket.
LHR-JFK in PE would get you the same TATL PE points but extra 20 – 70 TPs on the leg to LAS
What’s your comfort zone like if you starting in say AMS which would get you extra TPs but also add a complexity and possible cost?
I need 90 by June to get Silver. Good idea for JFK. I’ll look into this. Happy to try AMS, that is also a good tip. Thanks!
What about adding a car or hotel for 5 nights turning it into a BA holiday and take advantage of the double up tier points promotion?
90 is indeed close.
Do you want to be silver before your LAS trip for lounge access etc?
If you are then there are options to get 90 TPs that would be reasonably cheap if you’re up for it.

Yeah, I looked at that but it makes it a lot more expensive.

Now, that’s an idea. Thanks 🙂
