I’m currently GGL and do value the jokers and premier team very highly. Nearly all of my flying is long haul and to Asia, specifically Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Singapore with 2-3 US trips as well. I fly mainly in business with the odd PE flight too and I’ve just requalified for Gold for next year.
My conundrum is that the majority of my flights are on partner airlines, mainly because BA don’t physically fly to Seoul and Taipei, but also AY, CX, QR are often significantly cheaper. I expect that I’ll hit the 40k TP to prequalify for GGL, but will be nowhere near the £32k of BA spend required. Potentially I now have no incentive to keep flying OW and could divert the second half of the TP collection year to another alliance completely. I’ll miss the Avios but that’s not a deal breaker.
I realise that this is exactly why BA have the £32k requirement as it’s the BA Club and they want the revenue, but can’t help feeling it’s overly restrictive when they don’t even fly to 2 of the places I travel to the most.
A very first world problem I know, but this is a forum to discuss miles and points so interested in thoughts, especially from other GGL’s.
A lot of programmes have various restrictions when earning status
QR has a 4 flight minimum on QR metal or minimum earn 20% of your points on QR metal.
Over the years I’ve seen lots of complaints about various qualifications hurdles people need to pass. It’s usually reduce it to the level of TPs they’ve earned!
If BA reduced it to £ 31k some people would say why not £ 30 or £29
