Are gift card redemptions worth it?

I’ve been racking up points on my American Express card and heard that you can redeem them for gift cards. Has anyone here done that before? I’m curious about the process and if it’s worth it compared to other redemption options. Also, are there any gift cards or redemption methods you’d recommend for getting the best value out of my points?

It says on there that statement credits offer the worst value but if you get MR points near your renewal date to stay with Amex, you can use them to offset your annual fee rather than on spend you weren’t going to make in the first place.

But you would be better off getting an Amex cashback credit card!
