Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Gifted Silver status just before the end of my account year …

A very kind friend of mine has gifted me Silver Status (he is GGL). He intended to do this just after my Executive Club year had started so I could benefit from the status for 2 years. However he inadvertently gifted it just before my year end instead, which means I’ll only get the benefit for just over 1 year. In the email I got from BA there is a link to click to ‘accept’ his invitation, which I haven’t done yet. If I don’t ‘accept’ the invite, will it automatically cancel after a period of time, so my friend can resend it once my Executive Club year has restarted? Or is there a way he can manually cancel the invitation himself and resend in a few weeks?

I suspect, and this is a best guess, that if your status is not yet upgraded then you’ve got away with it – just wait until after the 9th of the month and accept it then.

The link does expire after a few weeks. In my experience I was unable to resend the invitation from my account and had to call the GGL team to have them initiate the second invitation.

Thanks for the tips. I was already Silver but it was about to expire (similar gift from the same person over a year ago) so I can’t tell if the upgrade has been applied to my account or not yet. I’ll sit it out and see what happens when the current status is set to expire.

    Thanks Rantallion, that sounds promising!
