Forums Other Destination advice Good restaurant near JFK?

  • 44 posts

Hi, all. Doing an NYC trip in early Jan. Coming back on a day flight, so thinking of staying near to JFK for the last night. Can anyone recommend a good-to-very-good restaurant? Will be there on the day of our silver wedding anniversary, so even though Mrs mef will have been thoroughly wined and dined all weekend I will still need to deliver on the goods that evening!

    Thanks

    mef

The Paris Cafe at the TWA hotel serves very good food and has a wonderful 1960s departure terminal vibe. Book in advance, but no need to be staying at the hotel – and being attached to the terminal you don’t need to take a taxi to it.

My advice – stay in the hotel you’re already staying at (I’d assume somewhere in Manhattan) and taxi it to JFK on the morning of your flight.

You’ll have a far wider range of eating places to choose from.

This is sound advice. You’ll also be going against the traffic and the earlier start will further help adjust the body clock back to UK time.

The TWA Hotel looks too cool to miss now I’ve seen it!

But check the reviews. Service reported to have fallen off an absolute cliff earlier in the year. Not sure if they’ve managed to turn it around.

I absolutely would not be entrusting my wedding anniversary dinner and night to the TWA hotel unless your wife thinks a glass of wine in a plastic cup followed by a night in an overpriced Travelodge, that just happens to be next to JFK and admittedly is inside some amazingly cool architecture, is the business.

    BAFlyer’s advice is spot on.
