Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Guest business lounge access?

  • 74 posts

My wife and I are flying business to MIA in a few months from T5, booked with Avios and a 241. It’s a trip to see a relative and my mum is joining us, she is paying cash for her ticket and in Premium.

Even though we just have Blue status and booked the flights with Avios my understanding is my wife and I will be able to access the business lounge. Does anyone know a way we would be able to bring my mum as a guest? She’s cool with us being in a different cabin for the flight (although going to try to wangle it so she’s on the same deck) but I’m not leaving her on her tod in a different lounge before hand.

So either we bring her into the longe with us or we all book for another lounge.

    Suggestions welcome 😀

You won’t be able to guest her in.

Only Silver and Golds get guest access rights.

Thanks 🙁 never mind, guess we’ll be booking into another lounge then

I was just about to suggest downloading the Red by Dufry app for the Dragonpass discount offer – but I cannot now see this in the app anywhere –

It seems it has been removed…?

Can you upgrade her with Avios?

If you upgraded to First, you could guest her in.

Ooh, this is a good idea that hadn’t even crossed my mind. Thanks, this could be the solution.

Us upgrading to First is not an option, but useful to know it would have worked as well.

There’s no guarantee but you could pay for her to access the lounge. I’ve not done this in T5 before but have in other lounges at LHR.

You can’t pay to enter the BA lounges. The upgrade with avios idea had occurred to me but she’ll need to call BA to find out – and probably need to be in a HHA with the OP if using his avios.

There would also need an award CW seat to be available.

Or give your likely airside arrival date and time and perhaps a silver or gold is flying solo and will guest her in.

That would be a lovely idea but I wouldn’t be happy sharing that kind of information on a public web page, especially since I have my real name an photo as my username here

You mean your real name and pic are okay but your flight details aren’t? :)))

    OP, all easily rectified.

Change your username via the ‘account’ setting, change your gravatar and get yourself a disposable, non-personally-identifiable email address for discussing offers offline.

It’s an arrival time and day at an airport with thousands of different travellers passing though an hour .. but don’t you think your actual name and pic is more of a security issue than two random bits of info.

Meh, we all have things we are comfortable with and not 🤷‍♂️😀

If upgrading with Avios isn’t an option then she could ask at checkin whether an upgrade for cash is possible – it might be possible, might not, or might be too much to afford, but worth considering if she would value going in Club. It will definitely be too expensive to be worth it just for the lounge access.

Fair enough but have been guested and guested people like this before and no issues, guest gets in and you both wonder off on your merry way unless you’re both in a talkative mood.

Really not sure what the actual security risk is in all honesty im struggling to think what actually happen airside at an airport. See how many security and police personal turned up just for a couple planes having a fender bender yesterday lol

I’m thinking @simon doesn’t want any HFP-reading burglars knowing exactly when he’s going to be away from home, which is a consideration. I never came across any burglars that organised but I hear some of the more sophisticated ones even travel from as far as South America to target wealthy Brits who have been doing their influencer stuff in Dubai and the Maldives, thereby alerting the internet that their Rolexes and Range Rovers are currently languishing unsupervised at home.

And it’s all hunky dory until your guest goes off on a bender and misbehaves in some way and then the airline holds you responsible so revokes your status etc.

And there is still plenty of illegality that happens airside at an airport. There are fights and assaults, general drunkenness, people damaging things like toilets and shopflifting too.

I would have no issue guesting someone in (if there were other party members entering the lounge). It’s not difficult to tell if someone is going to respect your gift or not.
