OH has something in Hackney Downs later in the year. She doesn’t particularly want to drive there as it’s a 3 hour round trip and she needs to be there two days.

I’m struggling to find anywhere to stay nearby and looking for advice. This really is an area of London I know nothing about.

I guess we could stay in central London but then I’d need to be able to drop her off and leave the car somewhere before heading to the hotel to avoid an even earlier start in the morning.

    Have you checked Premier Inns?
There are plenty close enough and you can leave the car and avoid the congestion charge.

Where is home for you? Convenience aside, east London in 2025 might be rather a shock to the system so might be better overall to suck up the journey from central London.

There’s a Premier Inn and Staycity at Dalston.

    I haven’t but there is one close-ish.

I have zero idea what you are hinting at, but if I can cope with living in Moss Side in the 1980s, I’m sure we’ll be fine.

The Old Ship Inn Hackney is a pub with rooms a 10 minute walk from Hackney Downs LO station and has good reviews on Google and booking.com, a single occupancy double room is c£100 for dates this week. There’s also a Travelodge nearby but the reviews are a bit mixed.

    Plenty of hotels in Stratford.

Why do you need to drive?

Came here to write this. I live locally and would recommend these as reasonable options.

Buses and overground run from Dalston to Hackney Downs v regularly. Or your wife could even use uber etc.

Kingsland Road and Stoke Newington Road have some fab Turkish and Vietnamese restaurants. Also a great Mexican restaurant, named Corrochios. That’s if you plan to eat locally.

Love living and hanging out in this part of NE London. Lots of character and diversity.

Rural Cambridgeshire is not known for it’s great public transport, and the train alone for two days costs more than a night in a hotel.

As for Stratford, it’s an hour from Hackney by bus so I dismissed that pretty quickly.

Sounds excellent. Was hoping for a bit of character in the evening.
