What are they like? I gather they do breakfast but is it a continental breakfast and do they do food in the evenings and do they have a lounge bar?
I ask because I will need a two night stay on business in Lancashire and the only Hilton is a Hampton. If they’re basic like a Premier Inn I will probably look elsewhere.
Very basic. Basic breakfast, limited hot items but free. Only basic food like pizza at other times.
It’s say it’s almost a step down from a Premier Inn at some of them, others like a decent Premier Inn. Okay to lay your head, not much more. I personally find the mattresses very hard.Generally no frills but comfortable. The UK ones are different to the US (as are HIX etc).
If you mean the Blackburn one then there’s no indication on the website that there’s anything other than breakfast, which is the norm. Hamptons are basic buffet, with waffles, usually powdered scrambled egg etc.
I like Hamtons but stay elsewhere if you want frills.
Better than HIX with regards to quality if both rooms abd breakfast. Better than Mixy but a bit below Courtyard but then neither of those inclyde breakfast. They’re good when new but I’ve found them susxeptible to wear and rear, probably due to a combination of poor quality materials, construction abd maintenance.
Also no upgrades if you have status.
Well IME there are upgrades but only to preferred rooms such as corners, high floors etc. They also consider Queen to Queen + sofa(bed) as an upgrade as the latter are usually at a higher rate.
Well it’s one of the newer properties locally so should be better than the HIs. It actually looks quite smart from the outside (I drive past it regularly) – there was much excitement when they revealed in the local media that it was going to have Smeg mini-fridges and kettles in the rooms. I have wondered whether any of them have been stolen! It’s not very glamorously located, just off the M65 overlooking a huge roundabout, but there are numerous food options nearby, and we have a veritable cornucopia of supermarkets including 2 Lidls and 2 Aldis!
It’s only really been in use since the pandemic ended so should be still fairly new-looking inside.
I sometimes harbour wicked thoughts about booking my in-laws in there to do mattress runs for me when they visit us 😈Blackpool is Lancashire is it not? It’s one of my favourite hotels in any case (easily pleased I guess). Premium rooms and all sorts there; upgrades aplenty potentially.
I find Hampton a step below what I’ll tolerate for a basic stay. Room-wise they’re no worse generally than a Premier Inn but PI seems to have more cut-through with the middle class who see PI stays as savvy shopping like going to Aldi. Whereas Hamptons tbh I’ve felt quite unsafe at times with the other guests on my floor/in lifts. Hampton breakfasts have always IME been utter rubbish; challenging the Ibis Styles on Bath Road as the worst I’ve had in the UK.
As a juxtaposition, it’s worth pointing out
that there are also some great ones, if you
can get them at a decent price. Waterloo springs to mind.Hampton by Hilton is definitely my first choice when travelling from Gatwick. Decent breakfast, quiet room, M&S at the entrance for snacks on arrival, check-out straight into departures.
The only time I’ve had a problem with HxH was when it was a brand new opening and we had to take the plastic off the mattresses, make the beds, unpack the fridge and TV from the boxes ourselves in the room. Then scavenge enough bed linen to make up the sofa bed as the staff didn’t have the access to the linen room.
If it’s the Blackburn one, then it passes the tin test though a very large roundabout to negotiate! Bed flat, water hot and upgraded to a high floor. Breakfast more than passable and yes a quirky fridge.
I have stayed at the Blackburn one a few times. One of which coincided with a pretty big coach party of Tourists. It did seem an odd location for them!
The hotel is fairly new with nice rooms and a big lounge/bar. I must admit that I find the breakfast so-so. The rates have definitely gone up recently.
I’ve also stayed at the Blackburn Hampton a few times, the last in February, and always as an overnight. Status recognised by friendly front staff along with a proactive “grab a couple of items from the counter” – chocs/ pop/ etc.
A couple of times I’ve had a room (can’t remember if it was the same one) where the door was badly-hung and required both hands and a hefty shove to open. I thought the key hadn’t worked at first!
Rooms look new and well-presented, but if you’re working in-room the desk is a bit small and chair tight against the bed.
Breakfast is full, with lots of basic options (don’t expect eggs royale!) including many labelled halal items. It does the job.
I did try the burger one evening last year, and never again – desiccated and even the chips were inedible. The service station nearby can help here, if the hotel haven’t sacked the chef yet 😀
I think Hampton are great, I’ve yet to stay in one where I was dubious about any aspect of cleaning. I certainly can’t say the same about Hilton.
I never knew that so many of you had been to Blackburn 😂
Though technically the hotel is in the borough of Hyndburn, not Blackburn – this is an important distinction for locals!
Since when was a Premier Inn basic? The ones I’ve stayed at have better quality rooms than many four star hotels. OK, obviously the food, bar etc isn’t the same but no-one ever complains about the rooms (at least at the newer ones).
I think Hampton, HIX, PI etc are excellent products for the money and have done a great job at forcing many dodgy fire-trap independent 2/3 stars out of business.
It’s just a terrible shame that Travelodge haven’t yet been forced out of business!
Ive done a few 1 and 2 night stays at the Hampton on Broad St Brum when going to the footy. No complaints at all, just make sure I get a high floor as Broad St gets a bit lively at the w/e.
Breakfast is ok if you avoid the scrambled egg – I think they are good value, albeit usually stay on points. My OH prefers the Garden Inn which is a better location admittedly, but no free brekkie for us ( Silver ) So if im flush with points will do the 30K per night at the Garden, otherwise 20K for Hampton.

My dirty secret is that after years of watery powdered scrambled egg type substance, I’ve grown rather fond of it. I should add especially when you get enough hot sauce on them.

Trust me, some Premier Inns are dives. I’ve used the money back guarantee at the Dudley one my stay was so awful.
I’ve a soft spot for HIX, usually enjoy the stay for what it is. Apart from the Hampton at LGW however, I’ve not found them to be much good. Even there I’d rather do for the full Hilton at the South Terminal. The Hampton breakfast is passable, the rest I’m happy to just pass. It’s just a terrible shame that Travelodge haven’t yet been forced out of business!
Worse, didn’t someone like Accor buy them?

I wouldn’t expect to find anything other than a dive in Dudley!

Small plus-point being the orange chips 😉
