Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Hilton Honors Hampton by Hilton, pre-paid booking not triggering offer

  • 7 posts

    Hi all,
Booked an advance rate Hampton stay at the cheapest pre-paid rate, cashback offer didn’t track, I queried and was hit with the “checkout spend only” line. This seems to be a widely encountered issue. Might be worth noting this in the article.

Are we meant to guess with Hampton by Hilton this was?

What does the extra info when you click the transaction on the app say?

Rob is pretty clear the offer says checkout spend only but generally it works for all charges. It’s still a YMMV if you don’t stick to the terms of an offer.

Latest article describing the offer here

    Within the article, it states:

The offer rules say that only checkout spend counts. In virtually all circumstances, pre-paid bookings will also trigger the cashback because they are processed in the hotel via the same credit card system. You do this at your own risk, of course

So, virtually all – although not all, clearly.

    Which hotel was it?

Also how long have you been waiting? The Hilton cash back has been taking longer than usual, as per a couple of other recent threads.

    Will turn up just fine.

Please don’t believe anything the Amex call centre tells you, about anything.

I suspect at least 1,000 readers use every iteration of this offer, potentially more, and there are never issues with pre-paid properties.

… provided that the property does the charging. Sometimes they send you a third party website link to pay there and that may not work.

Yes and certain properties who then tell you they don’t take Amex (that’s you, Dreams Lanzarote) 🙄

It was the Hampton by Hilton Munich City North. I chose the pre-paid rate. Offer didn’t track so I asked amex chat who promptly raised a case: I heard back yesterday that it didn’t meet the conditions because it was an online transaction.

The transaction info comes up as “Primestar Hospitality G Berlin” so maybe this Hotel uses central payment collection?

I posted on another thread that I encountered a similar issue with a prepaid booking at the Gantry, London. It was charged at the time of booking by the hotel, but they used a different merchant code than their usual one that Amex recognised.

I had used previous versions of this offer at the same hotel, mix of prepaid and on checkout with success so it can vary.

This may have been a one off, and more to do with the hotel than the prepaid rate, but it is always at own risk. I have hotel stays most weeks so it does not particularly matter to me as will always be able to use them regardless.
