Hi guys
I have been trying to work out how many points I should be receiving from a recent Marriot Stay in the Renaissance Hotel, Hamburg. Unfortunately, I have really confused myself so badly now I have a headache. Can anyone help me?
I stayed 3 nights. Booked via my Marriot Bonvoy account and login details.
Both myself and wife are Gold Bonvoy status (we each hold a separate Amex Platinum card)
I qualified for the Q1 Global Promotion “1000 points/night and Double Elite Night credits”
I qualified for the “Exclusively for You” Earn 18,000 Bonus points, ie. 3000 – 1st stay, 6000 – 2nd stay and 9000 – 3rd Stay. So essentially I’ll be credited 3000 points for this promo.
Now, the total hotel cost was 1065.10 Euros.
I booked using my own personal Marriot login and membership number. Not my wife’s.
However, I paid using my supplementary card (in my name) from my wife’s Amex Bonvoy card account.
As I stayed 3 nights, I have already been credited 6 elite nights.
But, how many Bonvoy points should I be credited?
Will they go to my Marriot Bonvoy account directly?
Will any points go to my wife’s Marriot Bonvoy account?
How many points will go to my wife’s Amex Bonvoy Credit Card Account?
Thanks for the help
Kevin
You should get 10 points per $1 on your Marriott Bonvoy account if you booked from your MB account plus 25% Gold Elite Bonus plus 500 points welcome amenity if you selected that.
On your wife’s credit card as you used a supp card, she’ll get 6 points per £1 spend which will transfer across to her MB account in a monthly sweep.
Remember that points are awarded of the total sum excluding VAT. VAT for accommodation I believe is 7% in Germany. If my calculations are correct you should receive points for approximately €996 which equals $1054. MB Gold earns 25% extra. On top, your wife should receive 6 points per £ on the MB AmEx, around 9000 approximately.
Breakdown (approximately):
Standard points: 10500
Bonus points: 2625
Promotion points: 3×1000
Total: 16125 + any welcome amenity points.
Marriott hotels are notorious for not awarding the correct amount of points and usually in your disfavour. 9 out of 10 of my stays involve a request to MB CS to correct the number of points, unfortunately. Some hotels I’ve actually given up after repeatedly informing that they award the wrong number of points, often as much as 95% less than what you should be awarded. So pay attention to your statement and notify MB CS if the points awarded are incorrect.
