I’m trying to book a one way redemption from IAD to LHR in Club. There are seats available but the BA website is quoting 60000 Avios plus £718.60. I don’t understand why the fee is so high as I recently booked return UK/US club redemptions and paid a similiar amount. Why is it charging me the full return fuel surcharge instead of a one way fee? Help!!
Partly because BA have added a little bit on since you booked the return you mentioned. But mainly because BA charge even higher fuel surcharges on tickets originating from the US. The reason for this is apparently Americans are drowning in Avios because credit cards give them away so BA can get away with it.
Yes, one way from the US is terrible value in J/F.
Thank you – i just checked a revenue booking in Club and there is a USD850 fuel surcharge – total rip off!!
This is basically BA balancing out the fact that it gives out Avios like confetti in the US. In some ways it does you a favour because it keeps US flyers off BA Avios seats so there are more for UK residents.
