Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Help with Upgrade & BAPP Companion Voucher

    Hi, hope someone can advise!

I booked an Outbound to the US through Virgin (a very rare amazing Upper Class points deal) & hoped to fly back in CW with BA from LA using Barclaycard Upgrade in April ’25 (two people, so both upgrading), obviously without realising we couldn’t do it as it needs to be a UK origin flight for the voucher.

I am also planning to go to Mexico City return in CW (again two people) using a BAPP companion voucher in November ’25. However I wouldn’t have enough miles if I booked the LA to London flight without an Avios upgrade voucher.

I had a couple of questions, is there any reason I couldn’t do the below:

    – book a companion flight LA to London for May ’25 (2x CW) with the ‘return’ Mexico City to London for late November ’25 (2x CW)

    – book Barclaycard upgrade one way (2x CW) from London to Mexico City for late November ’25

I wasn’t sure if booking another flight between a return trip would cause an issue (I’m also going to flying shorthaul between LA & Mexico with BA). & also if the companion voucher would allow two trips to London?

I don’t know if your plan for the companion voucher would breach the open jaw rules? The dates would be fine though.

I’m trying to plan a couple of trips with the same vouchers for the end of 25/start of 26 and because of the Barclays restrictions and limited VS network, it’s not proving easy!

i don’t think this wouldn’t be allowed as there is no return flight element in the booking. It looks more like 2 one ways.

    lAS-LON-MEX Would be though.

Thanks BA Flyer – the issue with that is I can’t then use my Upgrade voucher as it has to be a London origin flight. Think there’s no feasible way to use both across the three flights then :o(

No, unfortunately not. It would possibly be worth you looking at redemption options with Iberia who fly to both LAX and MEX, and for which you can use the companion (but not upgrade) voucher with lower Avios / cash requirements. Whilst that doesn’t help you use your upgrade voucher, it may make the trips more affordable within your Avios balance.

It would mean flying via Madrid though.
