Forums Other Housekeeping HfP search not working

  • 109 posts

It would be nice if the HfP Forum Search option actually worked.
    Just tried:
    bapp upgrade
    bapp
    upgrade
    american express

All return no results found – really!!

Also, the main HfP search always returns 500+ hits, which is absolutely unusable.
Instead of returning every hit for every keyword entered, it should only return those articles which have ALL of the keywords.

Rob, have you outsourced your website to the BA IT clowns?!

    BTW – I am logged-in.

If only there was a pinned post at the top of the forum explaining this and how to get around it…

Here’s the thing – main site search is astonishingly powerful but we’ve never quite perfected the balance.

We can, for eg, set the weighting between date and word match, so that newer articles which are a weaker match show before (or after, up to us) older articles with a better match.

If anything it is too smart for its own good. It is an expensive outsourced system which runs externally to reduce site resource drain.

Remember you can toggle between ‘newest’ and ‘relevance’ which may help.

One thing worth remembering is that site policy is to avoid acronyms so ‘BAPP’ won’t get you far. We do use it but try not to.

I rarely use in-site search, no matter the website. I use a query like “site:headforpoints.com British Airways”, and get tonnes of results.

I subsequently found out that it’s been broken since April 2023 (4+ months), just like BA’s On Business website!! Must be the BA IT clowns.
Why not change the SEARCH button to launch a search engine page with the site:HfP … to do the job? Or remove SEARCH and have a piece of text advising what to do.
