Forum search not working – click to see how to get around this

We’ve broken forum search, sorry.

An upgrade to the main site search has managed to wreck the forum search.  We are trying to fix it but it will take some weeks.

In the meantime, I recommend doing this in Google.  Type ‘site:headforpoints.com/forums singapore hotels’, obviously replacing ‘singapore hotels’ with whatever search term you want.

If we’re honest, the results this brings up are better than the results that the official site search brings up anyway 🙂

slash not needed just the sitename as in above syntax then whatever search term you would normally do

The /forums is needed if you want to search the forum and not the whole site, including articles.

Not really NLE. This has worked for forums, enough for me.

It’s old articles I know are there and that I recall, that I still struggle to retrieve. Often very, very old ones come up (like 2013 or so), but multiple newer ones don’t.

Even google hasn’t indexed the forum properly. I know someone mentioned “visual voicemail” the other day but G’s site search can’t find it.

Old main site articles which have been updated may have been diverted to a newer article, which would result in them disappearing from search. Main site search also has an algorithmic element to it now – we can give weighting to different elements which impacts rankings.

For example, we give a high weighting to date (rarely value in 5 year old articles) whereas a fashion site may not do this because a 5 year old article on what shoes to wear with jeans would not date in the same way.
