There’s now a Hilton option in Kyoto – Hilton Garden Inn Shijo. Weurd chouce of brand IMO, and I’m also unconvinced by the pricing. Standard reward night cap seems to be set at 60,000 points and rates about 30,000yen based on nights I looked. I think one would really want to stay in Kyoto to pass on the Conrad and Hiltonb just a short train ride away in Osaka.
It looks like it’s opening in November. I am seeing prices of ¥17k cash and 39k points. Roku is too far from anything interesting and is quite expensive. I think this competes with new Hyatt Place, Moxy/Tribute. Definitely space in Kyoto for more budget friendly hotels. I think they are still adjusting the pricing though.
@meta, I think those prices would be more fitting, even do zi still don’t fancy it. HGI is also my least favourite Hilton brand based on experience. I was checking June, by vomparison Hilto Osaka was around 50k in May but has yet to be released for June. Better hotel and good location to explore the whole area by train.
Yes, Osaka is a really good base. You can be at Kyoto Station within 10 minutes on shinkansen from Shin-Osaka like I was the other day on a free afternoon. Only £16 return as well without the JR pass.
If money is an issue, I’d just base myself in Osaka. Shinkansen are running till midnight and local trains a bit later. But restaurants close up by 10-11pm, so you’d not have much to do anyway.
