Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Hilton Honors Hilton elite status gifting

Maybe this is well-known, but I’ve just discovered that Hilton Diamond Status doesn’t automatically come with the ability to gift Gold status to someone. I did a bed run at the end of the year to trigger Diamond status specifically so I could gift Gold status to my wife. Despite the very large and very clear table on Hilton’s website which shows ‘elite status gifting’ as a perk of diamond status, I’m told I’m not eligible. The reason is that the carryover nights they awarded me don’t count towards elite status gifting. You need to have earned at least 40 nights in that calendar year.

Have others come across this? I’m pretty unhappy about the lack of clarity on Hilton’s website about this. We are a family of five (oldest kid now 19) so need the extra gold status to max out on free breakfasts. My wife also travels independently at times so the gold status would have helped her. I really think Hilton’s table here (https://www.hilton.com/en/hilton-honors/member-benefits/) is misleading.

Yes, that has always been the case, although the nights needed is usually higher as they were cut with the other thresholds for COVID. Gifting is similar to the other milestone bonuses that are based on actual nights stayed.

Scroll down to where that benefit is described on the page you have linked to and it says:

    Elite status gifting
If you hit 40 nights in the calendar year, you can gift Gold status to any member. If you hit 70 nights then that gift is upgraded to Diamond.

Agree it is not totally explicit that this does not include rollover from the previous year, but I think that is what they mean by “in the calendar year”.
