Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Hilton Honors Hilton Honors Plus Debit Card

Hi I’m new to collecting points. I am looking at getting the Hilton Honors Plus debit card to use for overseas spending. My logic being that I currently use Halifax Clarity for all overseas spending for the 0% FX but don’t get any reward points. This card would allow me to use it overseas and gain HH points at the same time.Plus it would give me Gold which I’m a long way off at the moment! I probably wouldn’t use it in the UK as I would use Avios generating cards instead. Does my logic make sense?

Also, would a referral code also work with the current offer of 30,000 bonus points. If so, does anyone have a referral code I can use please?

    Thanks.

    Hi and welcome!

I don’t have the HH+ Debit card myself, but I’m 100% certain that you can only link it to your current account, which is obviously linked to debit card, so your Clarity plan is not possible.

Sorry – I meant that I use Halifax Clarity currently and instead I would use Hilton debit because they both give 0% FX but with the Hilton I would also get points on spend and Gold status. I would stop using Halifax Clarity overseas.

Your logic is fine but I would caution you against using it for rental cars and hotel “security deposits” as those are best done on credit cards.

When you pre-book/pre-pay for a hotel with it the hotel will use that card on file automatically, often before you arrive and put a hold against the funds. In the US that can be a significant amount (hundreds of dollars in places like Las Vegas) and it can take up to a month to release.
