Hilton now pushing paid upgrades at app check in

Checked in for a stay in Newcastle tonight and the “choose your room” feature in the app now displays prices for upgrades to particular rooms! I’m not particularly bothered as we’re only using this hotel for sleep and breakfast but we weren’t upgraded on our last stay (Hilton Deansgate) and it does look like Hilton is starting to take a hard line with a view to squeezing more cash out of guests.

Was this Gateshead? Did you not get the automated email upgrade notification a couple of days prior to the stay, which is what happened the last few stays we had here?
