Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Hilton Honors Hilton Tokyo or Conrad Tokyo?

This will be our 2nd time in Tokyo. First time back in summer 2018 when we stayed at the Okura Tokyo. I am looking to use my HHnour points ~140k and buy some more (during this 100% bonus promo) to make it 5-4-4 deal. Long story short (as I am not going to bored you with the math), we are looking to spend:

~£950 for 5-nights for Conrad(cash rate is over £700 or 95k point per night on the dates I am looking)
~£700 for 5-nights for Hilton (cash rate is over £300 or 80k point per night on the dates I am looking)

I am Gold from Plat. Amex if that matters. I collected HHnour point from work-stay.

With £50 difference per night I was hoping if anyone could share their experiences from these hotels or any thoughts please as I think Conrad is better than Hilton following my stay in Bangkok but not sure if it is worth the £50 extra a night though.

    Cheers,
    Vit

What do you plan to do in Tokyo? I’d choose accordingly.

Conrad Tokyo is beautiful and views of the bay are amazing (as Gold you might get an upgrade from city to bay view, but that’s about it as they are now probably full all the time). I love the pool, but it is not very big. During covid it was a bliss as no-one stayed and prices were reasonable with lots of F&B promos. It’s about 15-min walk to Ginza, but there is very little activity in the immediate surroundings.

Hilton is in Shinjuku and you have plenty options for dining out and really many things to do. Shibuya is not as far or the Yoyogi park. Personally, I prefer that area. Previously as Gold they always upgraded me to Junior Suite. Now that I am Diamond, they upgrade me to a proper suite. The rooms and the lounge also have great views, but of Tokyo skyline and sometimes from lounge you can see Fuji.

@meta thanks for very useful insights. I think with 50 quid cheaper we are sold on the Hilton, mainly due to the locations as well. We will be sightseeing and catching up with uni. friends as we all now have toddlers 😀

Considering 16 months old (then) on tow and a few luggage (as on our way home, Bangkok) we will probably need to use taxi both in (from HND) and out (to NRT). I only used taxi before in Tokyo in short distance and I don’t think it was cheap… I am not sure if Hilton has limo-bus like Conrad based on the reviews I have read…

I emailed Hilton and they are happy to store our luggage prior or after our stay free-of-charge as well as we plan to drop off the luggage and visit a few ryokan before spending the last 5 nights in Tokyo.

Not really got anything to add to @meta except to say definitely Hilton/Shinjuku from my POV for same reasons discussed. The Airport Limousine bus works for this hotel but with 3 of you including baby I think I’d opt for the taxi. For the same reason, if you’re interested going to Fuji/Hakone you can take Romance Car train directly from Shinjuku Station.

I agree with Meta. Especially with an infant in tow the location will be a big factor (assuming you are doing at least one naptime each day).

I would definitely take a taxi to the Hilton. It’s not particularly convenient by public transport to either airport (and it’s also quite a walk to Shinjuku station). The Conrad is actually fairly good for airports – direct trains to both HND and NRT from nearby Shimbashi station – but I’d keep it simple.

Look on Klook, you’ll get better prices than directly from hotel or similar. Although it’s a hit and miss these days in terms of how good the service is. Read reviews of each company on there separately.

Thanks everyone for the input. I think from HND to Hilton Tokyo it should be okay with the limo bus but not too sure from the hotel to NRT.

Does anyone know how soon buying HH point is posted? I read on the website it is up to 48 hours.

I bought HH points in December and again last month. They posted instantly.

There is a sale on at present (and most of the time!)

@AlexG thanks. that’s good to hear.

I am hoping to book 5-4-4 using points. Never done this before. I am Gold from Plat. So thinking it would allow me to do it but I guess I first must have sufficient point otherwise it will just show me the point + cash option for 5 nights. Is that correct? Anyone can advise please?

Hi @Vit – yes – it’s annoying but, as @Alex G said above, if you buy the points they post quickly. If the rooms are showing as available for standard points bookings on your preferred dates then the 5-4-4 should work fine…

Hello all, so I have been keeping an eye on the point required per night for Hilton Tokyo and managed to save quite a bit of point. 5 nights for 291k, not a steal but better than their standard 320k (5-4-4 nights).

Anyway, I was hoping to ask if I could potential email the hotel to book another room (cash booking) for my family members. They don’t have any status with any hotel chains. So close-by hotel, they were looking at Hyatt Regency (a few hundred £ cheaper) but they are keen to stay with me at the Hilton. I am not sure if I can use my Gold status to get breakfast for both of them as well as I will be using it for my room (point booking) already. Happy to hear your thoughts. Otherwise, they may just stay at Hyatt Regency nearby.

Email the hotel and see what they say. Do you have a partner or someone else with Gold status? If so, you can book the other room in that name to benefit from free breakfast.

How as Okura? I’m toying with the idea of using Amex travel offer to stay there.

@meta unfortunately not. Player 2 was not bother with getting the Gold during her 6 months spell with Plat early this year so I was quite gutted about that. Lessons learned! I did pop them an email and see what they say.

Re — Okura, we stayed 3 nights there and we had a wonderful time. Service from entrance to front desk to room service are impeccable but I guess that’s what you would expect from these sorts of hotel in Japan anyway; though you have travelled so much in Japan that your expectation could be really high! Upon check-in (as we arrived early and the room was not ready) we were invited straight-away to the bar for a couple drinks while waiting. Breakfast was also sumptuous. There are more than one restaurants in the hotel but we did not try any of them unfortunately. I think the only downside is that you feel you kinda need taxi every time to get to the station as it is a bit of a walk especially if like us visiting Japan in August, which I am sure you do not / will not! 😀
