Some help please
If I go on google flights I can fly EDI or NCL to HNL with BA.
When I use same dates using 241 it says no flights available!
I can get to SFO for 180000 plus £900 but that’s still short of HNL and will require another paid for flight.
Is there a work around or will I have to speak to BA?
TIA
google flights = cash so totally different availability.
Using 2-4-1 means avios availability restrictions. If you’re getting ‘no flights available’ it’s more than likely because there are no AA/AS reward flights on the TPAC leg(s) accessible by BA. Try searching it leg by leg to see where the block is.
You should look at going via DFW, SEA and PHX as I think AA has lay flat beds which I don’t think the SFO route has.
A 2 for 1 has to be flown on BA metal does it not? West coast USA is as close as you are getting while using the voucher.
More specifically, BA doesn’t fly to HNL and you can’t use a 241 with those OW airlines that fly from continental US to HNL, so you can get to the west coast, but thereafter need to book a separate ticket without luggage being checked through etc. although that matters a little less in the US.
Google flights will give very few clues about what you can do with a 241!
I would do this as a 2 centre – use the 241 to fly to a continental US destination where you’d like to spend a few days, then get a domestic flight on to HNL. Some years ago we had a fantastic holiday spending a week driving around LA/Palm Springs/Joshua Tree followed by 10 days exploring the beaches and other attractions of Oahu (e.g. hike to the summit of Diamond Head, visit Pearl Harbor).
Many thanks all for your swift input and I’m sure me an the OH can put together a trip. We’ve done a lot of the west coast but several ways of skinning the cat and may even go tother way around the world with AY and then onto HNL. The joys of holiday planning 🙂
Tokyo 241 then onwards direct with JAL?!
Looks cheaper via Seoul then onwards

But no 241, right?
Or is BA bringing that flight back?We are going to Hawaii next year so have used a 241 in to Las Vegas for a couple of night then 2 or 3 nights in Phoenix on the way back.
Now just need to sort our Island hopping plan before getting the flights to and from Hawaii

Have fun: we’ve done both so looking at Dallas or San Diego then some island hopping
Downtown Dallas is a bit sketchy. Not much else in Dallas. Fort Worth rodeo for the cowboy themed evening.

San Diego would certainly be our choice over Dallas but the city itself is also rather sketchy nowadays. It’s very beautiful by the sea but areas like the Gaslight Quarter have just been created for tourists and Coronado is horrendous. However, a very short distance up the coast, Del Mar, La Jolla etc are fabulous and remarkably unspoilt, although a few previous comments here have been rather snotty about La Jolla.
Last time I was in La Jolla we slept in the car and got moved on by the police at about 1 in the morning! Drive round a few blocks then back to sleep! The joy of impoverishment 😆😆

Well, these days unfortunately you need to be mega rich or not care about money to travel to the US. Although it’s not a difficult category to fall into, we are easily in the top 1% of income earners in the UK, but reckon we can no longer afford to travel to the US, but will still be travelling very extensively. There is really nothing of import in the US that can’t be found elsewhere…
Reading the lack of love for Dallas, where would people recommend breaking up the journey for a few nights in each direction? How’s Seattle? Austin? Should we go for somewhere in California despite the lack of flatbed?
We had an Arizona road trip earlier in Jan/Feb flying in/ out of PHX, then a Direct AA cash flight to HNL. 6:5 hrs flight time. Day flight, killer o/n back. Stayed 5 nights at a Hilton on points….. refunded half as management agreed our accommodation was not as expected. Did all the tourist stuff. If we go back….different island!

Agreed. Did NYC and Texas last year. Very expensive – and it’s not as if you get a bang for your buck. Everyday outgoings (apart from petrol) is expensive. And that’s comparing to London prices.
This is where all the hotel points accumulated and not spent during the pandemic come in handy. We did 3 weeks over Xmas and New Year in DC and Florida at minimal cash cost. Planning to tag a few days visiting Connecticut and RI next July on to the end of our Caribbean trip, again using points, to stay in Homewood Suites which are more like apartments than hotel rooms. Looking to fly home in Y on the day flight from NYC for 25k avios plus £50 each as the return leg of an expiring 241.
No idea if the best way but my wife and I did LHR-LAX on BA redemption. Then LAX-HNL with Hawaiian using virgin points.
My parents (booked by me) did LHR-SFO on BA redemption. Then SFO-HNL with American Airlines using Avios.
Both these trips were over 5 years ago so take with a pinch of salt.

Does anyone know if you can still use Virgin points on Hawaiian?
Been researching this journey. If your Avíos poor you can’t go wrong with 85k from MAD in A350 with IB for 2x using 241 TO DFW, LAX, SFO.
Then AA to HNL or OGG from lax/SFo/phx (13k Avíos 1 way) or dfw (20k 1 way) and £4 fees.

Apparently so https://flywith.virginatlantic.com/gb/en/flying-club/airline-partners/hawaiian-airlines/hawaiian-airlines-spend-points.html
I haven’t got a lot of Virgin points but will see if I can make some use of them for my trip
Yep – you can book on Hawaiian airlines with virgin points – you just need to call them and book it over the phone. I booked an inter-island flight (between OGG-HNL) for 7500 points and £4.60 in June.
