Forums Other Destination advice Hotels near Orlando Airport

Hi, looking for some advice on my options for a hotel near MCO in late January? I’m considering the Hyatt in the airport itself, but at around $550 per night and with an early flight the next day, I’m struggling to justify.

Hi, I stayed in the Hyatt palace MCO a couple weeks ago. Perfectly acceptable hotel and efficient and regular shuttle.

Thanks, this is helpful. Nothing looks too appealing apart from some of the hotels near Disney.

How about the Florida Hotel at the Florida Mall. It’s about 7/8 mins in a taxi to the airport. Plenty of eateries around within walking distance. Stayed there dozens of times, it’s perfectly acceptable but no frills.

Whilst the Hyatt is good, it’s not $550 good! We have stayed at the Homewood Suites and I was very impressed, but other than breakfast I recall you don’t really have any facilities. The shuttle service worked very well, even in the small hours after a delayed arrival.

(And I’d say it’s a lot more than a 7 minute drive from Florida Mall to the terminal at MCO. It takes almost that long from turning off the highway to getting to the drop off zone. Google maps shows it as around 8 miles, 15 mins without traffic.)

We stayed at Sheraton suites in January, it was perfectly fine with a nice indoor and outdoor pool and shuttle on request to the airport. It was a short drive or reasonable walk from a couple of restaurants.

Thanks, this is really helpful advice – including knowing that the Hyatt isn’t worth the premium. We have a 6am flight the following morning (connecting to a Caribbean cruise later that day) and fancied the convenience of being located right in the airport terminal – but if other good options are only 15 mins away by Uber etc. I think we’ll just save the $350 difference and stay at the Sheraton / Doubletree etc.

I’d be focused on a hotel with a good shuttle service rather than looking for an Uber, as you know the shuttle will be there for you even if just as a fall back. But ye gads – a 6am flight. That’s going to be an early start regardless as those queues for security at Orlando can be brutal.

Thanks – this is a helpful tip. And yes…sadly we need to be in Puerto Rico for a cruise that leaves at 5pm, so playing it safe involves the 6am flight!

Probably too late to be helpful now, but an evening flight the previous day wouldn’t be an option by chance? I see the last departures from MCO are very late indeed.

Even if you’re having to ditch the existing tickets, two more flights and a hotel in SJU would certainly be cheaper than the Hyatt (I know you ruled that out) and may well be not that much of a premium over an off-terminal hotel.

Also, that 6am flight will get you to SJU at 9am, making for a long day until you can get on the boat, whereas you could have a long lie in and a pool to lounge around instead.

Thanks for this advice. It’s amazing how the obvious solution doesn’t present itself to you sometimes!

We’ve managed to amend our flights flor an evening flight the day before, which means we’ll have the majority of a day in San Juan (Puerto Rico) before our cruise. So…next question is any tips for hotels in San Juan!
