This article wasn’t particularly useful in the steps to enrolment. I also think Presidents Club will be awesome in the US and walking straight to a car at a US airport without needing to speak to any humans is great.
From my Amex enrolment page I can easily enrol in the hotel programs – click, enter existing number, done. But for Avis and Hertz, they redirect to their websites and then nothing happens. Avis just goes to your profile page. Hertz goes to an enrolment page which is useless as I have a Hertz account already. Do I need to do this step or is simple using the CDP code on a booking enough for everything to happen?
As you already have a GPR account I believe the following steps are required in order to get your status updated to Five Star:
Go into your GPR account, add the 633306 CDP, and add your Platinum card as a saved payment method.
Contact GPR support via email to ensure your status is updated. Apparently your account status should update automatically but I would do this last step if you have a requirement to rent in the near future.

Cheers will try that. I’ve been meaning to talk to them as they’re misspelled my first name on my account and at some point a Hertz human will cause some grief for me when renting.
5 stars was the old Platinum linked status, now you are eligible for President Circle (also available to MasterCard World Elite card holders).
To update my status for existing accounts of both Avis and Hertz, I think to have done it by contacting Amex following the info from the welcome pack. I found myself mostly using Avis nowadays and the President Club has been useful for Priority pick up from dedicated bays, jumping queues at airports counters, upgrades (so far 100% rate) and late drop off.
