Forums Payment cards American Express How does Platinum travel insurance work with cancellations due to strikes?

Hi everyone, unfortunately we are affected by the train strikes and our onward journey to France was cancelled by Eurostar. We are now thinking of what to do.
    1) One option is to change the dates but the hotels are more expensive for the new dates,
    2) the second option is to keep dates as is and get an airplane to France but again the tickets are super expensive.

How does American Express Travel Insurance help with either of these two options? Would they cover any additional incurred costs for either the 1st or 2nd option?

You should speak to Amex, but if you read the policy, it does cover the costs of abandoning your trip owing to strikes and may possibly cover something under the ‘travel inconvenience’ section but another policy, if you have one, will likely offer better options. I can’t see anything in the Amex policy that would cover either of your two scenarios.

One of the requirements is to try and resolve it with the airline or provider first and show proof of your attempt.

In emirates case they now specifically try to wing it at check in they say

    You’re now checked in
Now that you’re checked in you can choose your boarding pass options. Print right away, at a later time or send directly to your smart phone to be scanned at the airport.

    Important information
If you are denied boarding or if your flight is cancelled or delayed for at least two hours, ask at the check-in counter or boarding gate for the text stating your rights, particularly with regard to compensation and assistance.

REGULATION (EC) No 261/2004, Article 14(1)

Now.. Regulation 261/2004 states that airlines do not have to pay compensation for delays caused by ‘extraordinary circumstances’, which may include events such as industrial strike action, extreme weather conditions and terrorism or sabotage.

    Maybe Rob can advise?

@Carlos this is nothing to do with airlines or EU261!
