Slightly niche question. Might be better in the “Others” section since it also involves QR.
I’ve paid for a round trip to Australia in J with QR via BA.com. Unfortunately, now found that I am unable to claim expenses on them from work due to a quirk of when I bought them, and would need to re-book to qualify. Looking online, it doesn’t look like there are seats available. I’d book alternative tickets, but family are travelling on the same flight (on a separate booking).
If I cancel, would I be able to re-book immediately or will it take time for the flights to come back on sale?
This gets asked in a regular basis and there really isn’t any firm answer.
Even BA avios cancellations don’t always get put back on sale immediately.
And here you’re dealing with a QR redemption and QR has their own rules on this.
They may not go back into Avios inventory at all
Fair enough. These are cash seats though, so I was hoping there might have been a clearer answer.
Thanks both!
Ah a revenue fare, well it depends on if the flight is overbooked, how far out are we booking?
Of course what the fare is for the last few seats is anyone’s guess
Sorry i assumed avios as this is the question that does get asked!
Just to check these are flexible tickets that permit a full refund and not an inflexible one where you only get the proper taxes and airport fees back?
Yes, I think I’ll end up eating about 300 pounds in charges, but it’s otherwise refundable. Essentially, I booked it in the wrong financial year. Travel isn’t until September, but the issue is that whilst there is availability on QR, the same flight doesn’t show up on BA anymore. I can book on QR, but that means I won’t make the segments needed for silver without extra flights. I suspect I’ll just have to settle for TPs only instead.
I assumed the answer was unknowable, but thought I’d check the hive mind just in case.
