Im flying Virgin out of LHR on Feb 17th
UC is probably 85% full
PE is a similar figure
But Economy is less than 10% occupied – do people still turn up at the airport without pre-booking their seat?
I cannot see how Virgin can be making any money when the entire plane is flying at 20% capacity.
And that then raises the question – Why still charge over £2300 per economy seat one way when you have so many of them sitting empty?
Where are you going? That date is during the half term break so I’d be surprised if it loads were that low.
I think unless booking extra leg room seats, an awful lot of economy pax do wait until online check-in opens at T-24, especially families who have been gouged for every element of travelling in school holidays!
One way seats are disproportionately expensive to discourage people from booking them.
Bearing in mind my original post was “guestimates” lol
LHR-MIA
Upper Class has 32 seats – only 14 are reserved so far
PE has 46 seats – only 21 reserved
EC has 132 seats – only 33 reserved
So, out of 210 seats only 68 reserved
Flying at 30% capacity
Wonder if they’ll start loading parcels on the rear cabin rows lol
Are you going to a prime holiday destination? If so, many in economy will be on a package deal, and either unaware or unable to choose seats in advance. Seat reservations don’t equal load…
Reserved seats do not reflect how ‘full’ the flight will be. I never pay to pre-book a seat – it’s a nice to have but I don’t value it enough to part with my hard earned cash.
Don’t confuse what you see on the seat map as a sign of how busy a flight is. Not just VS but for virtually any airline
Not everyone is bothered whey they sit and a re happy to wait until much closer to their travel date. And as noted above some people and groups can’t select seats in advance/
A single flight isn’t an indication of whether an airline is making money or not. The return flight could be abaolutly rammed and there is also cargo (in both directions) to consider as well.
From the recent VS flight I took to MIA, the two premium cabins had all or most seats booked by around a month out and Y was very open with not many seats at all selected. Y was the same even a week before departure. However on the flight I took a stroll to the back and Y was almost full. Seems not many Y travellers pay to assign seats. Knowing this, I wouldn’t!
