I tried to call BA after choosing them with a dummy redemption on AA wesbite as guided by the above article.
On calling BA they said AA sometimes only release a certain number of flights to book through BA. Anyone else experienced this before? Effectively BA cannot see these flights to even book then over the phone.

It was for ORD – IAH return.

If its true, then is the correct thing to do, to setup an AA account and connect avios accounts \trasnfer points book through that route?

Have you tried to book the flight on ba.com first? I wouldn’t rely on a BA CSA to be entirely correct.

AA don’t use Avios, they have their own currency and there’s no connection at all between the two airlines in terms of accounts.

The agent was wrong, it’s not about releasing a certain number of flights, it’s whether or not what used to be displayed as an AA Saver Award is available or not

Go to AA.com, search for flights with the redeem using miles box ticked and the ones you need to look for are priced at 12.5k miles + £4.60, non-stop. BA will be able to book those exact flights and you may even be able to book them on ba.com depending whether BA’s IT is working at that moment.

Thanks for clarifying (I didnt check how AA ccy work, that was the next clarification which I wont do now)
Indeed I checked BA.com and did not see the flights that I saw on AA.com with the dummy redemtpion.
I will call back BA to speak to someone else, thanks for clarifying.
