Hello.
Please suggest destinations in East or South East Asia where I won’t die from ridiculous humidity and temperatures in August.
Mrs Aston was demanding a visit to Korea for 4 weeks but having just about survived abnormal weather in Vietnam recently, I’m wary and she’s surprisingly stopped givin it the biggun about BTS.
A couple of travel blogs suggest most of Indonesia and certain parts of Malaysia being great in August. Well I know Borneo was almost as humid last August and I must have sweated several litres per day in the jungle so I’m taking those blogs with a pinch of salt.
Will be at least three weeks. Don’t mind moving around a couple of times (so a week in each of three or four places in the same or neighbouring countries is fine).
Not: Maldives, Seychelles, Mauritius.
Thanks
Indeed Bali in my experience will be dry and sunny and not humid at that time of year and three weeks would be a great amount of time to get out and explore. East coast of Malaysia should also be good – Redang or Perhentians couple of ideas but 3 weeks a bit of a stretch !
Agree in not visiting S Korea Japan etc around that time, it’s not pleasant
I found this website that can score humidity:
https://weatherspark.com/y/112764/Average-Weather-in-Phuket-Thailand-Year-Round
just type in a destination and scroll to the ‘humidity’ section.
In general, Asia is to be avoided in August if humidity is a big concern. Exceptions are hills and any places with elevated altitude. India and Srilanka have a few mountain resorts that can be good, but check the monsoon season as the rains hit some places early and some late. Ubud in Bali and Dalat in Vietnam can be good, though spending a longer time in Dalat can be really boring.
Yes, have done Bali in early August and don’t remember humidity being a concern for us, but we really suffered in Bangkok the following week.
Gilis and Lombok too are lovely in our so called summer can include Java for more sightseeing
Thanks guys.
So, Indonesia huh?
Well, I’ve still got the 2nd half of a companion voucher to use so I guess I’m going to have to go through 1am BA phone call shenanigans again to get a flight to KL or Singapore.
5 – 7 nights in Lombok, 10 nights in Bali (split between 2 locations – Ubud and somewhere else). Maybe a few nights in KL if I fly there. Or else a few nights in Yogyakarta.
I want to use Avios to come home, and Finnair might be an option from Singapore (they also fly from Phuket but not sure if it’s just seasonal as I can’t see availability outside Nov – Apr, besides it adds unnecessary complication). Or else maybe Malaysia Airlines, Cathay or Qatar?
Are we certain all of Indonesia is free of excessive humidity and ridic temperatures in August? Even Yogyakarta?
Thanks.
Not sure it’s ever free-from! But very doable – we’ve been going to
Java & Bali in the summer for decades & v rarely a problem with the weather.
Bangkok on our way back last Aug. was over 40º at one point.
