We’re taking the last BA flight to IAD that lands 2030 and then we have our next flight onwards to RDU at around 0830 the following day with IAD and DCA both offering non-stop flights. I have no preference for either airport or airline (UA or AA).
I’m thinking that even with Global Entry for both of us, we’re too late to get drinks and a snack downtown and then fly from DCA in the morning so considering an overnight in a soulless airport hotel.
What would people recommend? All we really want is a decent cocktail, some snacks, a bed and not far to travel in the morning. I’m not fussed about the cost of a taxi downtown if that’s the best option.
Doyle bar at dupont circle has great cocktails. I think it closes at midnight
It’s only 20 mins to DCA in a cab from hotel
IAD security is so awful that I’d switch to DCA if given the chance.
Not been to Washington for ages, but the area around the Lincoln Memorial is beautiful at night. I’d find a late bar or pizza place and then go for a walk before bed…
Downtown DC it is then. I always find a late night helps me with the time zone shift too
DCA Hotels, and DCA for domestic flights would be my choice every time.
Check-in. Pop down to the Mt Vernon Trail, then walk it into the City to the Memorial at night. If you’re a regular at DCA, it’s also a very easy walk to the airport from Crystal City. Again just head down to the Mt Vernon Trail, head towards Warehouse Road, then there’s an underpass that takes you directly to the DCA multistorey car park.
