Hi,
Could anyone please advise on BA 2-4-1 voucher redemption on Iberia? I have only just found out that they are redeemable on this airline. I am wanting to book Club World from Heathrow to Mexico City and the BA booking site is giving me options of both BA and Iberia options for Avios and 2-4-1 voucher redemption. Doing a dummy booking right up until it gives you various options for Avios/cash expenditure, it seems the voucher is applicable to both legs of London- Madrid and Madrid to Mexico when choosing Iberia? I didn’t think companion vouchers were valid on more than one leg each way?
Furthermore, there appears to be options to use the companion voucher for a mix of BA and Iberia planes of varying combinations to do return journey to Mexico City. Can I assume if I book Club World with the voucher that we will travel on that class regardless of whether the leg is direct or via Madrid and regardless of whether it is a combination of Iberia and BA?
Thanks in advance.
241s can be used on connecting flights but unless you book London to Madrid separately you’ll be on the hook for long haul APD (and possibly extra BA surcharges), which wipes out the benefit of starting in MAD on IB. Have you clicked through to payment on both options to see what the difference is?
Please do report back if you’re able to successfully book a mix of airlines, because in my experience it failed at the cost calculation stage.

You can do LON-MAD … stay there for 1 night and then MAD-MEX. Your return can be MEX-LHR or MEX-MAD-LHR.

I did exactly this but on the Santiago route with 1 day in Madrid. 2 4 1 voucher from Madrid to Santiago and separate reward flights from LHR to Madrid. (50000 avios £100) and (24000 avios 0.50p)
You shouldn’t be on the hook for the long haul APD, even on one ticket, as long as you spend over 24hrs in Madrid.
Do you have to spend 24 hrs in madrid to reduce the tax? I have 6 hrs there and all seems good

If you are on two tickets obviously you can stay for as short a time as you like but if your journey is on one ticket, APD is payable based on your final destination unless there is a stopover (24hrs +) rather than a connection.

But that only helps if you can book a connection longer than 24 hours on a single ticket. So far as I can see, it doesn’t appear to be possible for Iberia redemptions – at least not online at ba.com.
