Just had a few nights in Barcelona staying at the IC. A few hiccups at check-in with Club Intercontinental not applied to the booking correctly (upgraded after booking) and no note of our late check-out request. Ambassador status was only recognised as I was leaving the desk! Upgraded to a King Classic City view, which was a very comfortable room with a huge bathroom. They also gave as free access to the thermal suite normally (€45 value per session) which we made good use of a number of times. You have to prebook, but was never anyone else down there when we were there.
The rooftop pool area is great, though I wish parents would supervise their children when they are in the pool rather than disappearing off to the other side of the terrace. The rooftop bar is lovely though and the Monjuic restaurant pop-up looked and smelled fantastic but we didnt get to try it out.
In terms of location, it’s not in the thick of it like some of the other higher end hotels like the W, Arts (Ritz Carlton), Sofitel or Mandarin Oriental, and apart from the Fira there is not much else around but this is quite nice as its more residential with some nice bars around. Close to Espanya and Poble Sec metro stations so pretty easy to get anywhere.
Lounge was nice, but small. Drinks are officially available from 11 to 11, but these were already out at 9am at breakfast time. Canapes from 3pm were mainly small sandwiches and nibbles, with hot canapes from 5pm. Breakfast in the lounge was superb. A huge buffest selection of continental, with meats, cheeses, yoghurts etc. Normal hot selection available on the buffet, and then full list of eggs, waffles and pancakes available to order. Service in the lounge was great.
Slight issue at checkout with the Ambassador F&B credit not being applied, but this was quickly refunded when I noticed.
A very pleasant few days here, and already thinking about our next visit!
