Forums Hotel loyalty schemes IHG One Rewards IC Robertson Quay, Singapore – some thoughts

I just wanted to share some observations of a recent stay at this new-ish IC.

Great hospitality, but I honestly think if you removed all the branding, you would never imagine it to be an IC.

We had one junior suite and one regular room. The junior suite was able to take an extra bed, but that basically used up all the spare floorspace.

The regular room had a very strange layout, with the toilet literally tucked in a cupboard (with no extractor fan). The gap between the corner of the bed and the minibar was no more than 40 cms.

No evening turn down service, but they did seem to go in and draw the blinds.

Very slow check in & check out service which had the result of queues – again not something I’d expect at an IC, especially one as small as this.

Anyway that might be useful to someone. I picked it based on price, location and lounge access. But the tiny size of the rooms would probably discourage me from returning. And whilst grab served us well in SG, on reflection, the location wasn’t all that great, either.

The Intercontinental sub-brand shouldn’t give rise to any particular expectations – there is simply no consistency across the ICs. It’s a problem child within the IHG group with the highest range of ADR/ARR of any sub-brand from any hotel group and very little, if any, group management effort to ensure compliance with the anyway rather elusive standards. There are some pretty good ICs, lots of average ones and some very poor ones but pricing often reflects this. The good ones will in time become Regents, so the whole IC brand is on a downward trajectory.

OK, I wasn’t aware of that. All the ones I’ve ever stayed in have been notable for slick service and large, well laid out rooms.

I’ve stayed at Roberston Quay quite a few times and it’s my go to option for work trips based on it’s location and club (great for working in during the day) but completely agree with all the points made above. Personally the service has always been excellent and swift, but of course, it can vary everywhere.

We stayed at both RQ and Middle Rd back in May. RQ was a slicker modern business hotel, but not really a true IC. Much preferred Middle Road.
