Forums Hotel loyalty schemes IHG One Rewards IHG 100% points purchase bonus

I succumbed to a beach landing experience with the excellent half price Avios redemption with loganair. Anyway – I shall be staying at the Holiday Inn Express at GLA before my Twin Otter experience and I saw that IHG points are currently on offer with a 100% purchase bonus for purchases over 5000pts.

Rates were eg the following but wanted to give a heads-up. Small print at bottom of page indicated it was only on for a week or so

    $138 for 24k points purchased
    $126.50 for 22k points purchased

The hotel rate in cash seemed to cost the same as purchasing points to then reserve (ie no major benefit or arbitrage opportunity) but wanted to let everyone know in case they had a shortfall.

If anyone is, then have a look at the US TCB site, 2.52% at the moment. You can withdraw it via PayPal although you’ll lose a smidge on exchange rate. Then if you are really clever Curve gives an additional 1% if you have the correct plan.

This offer comes along every 1-2 months so only buy if you need to use them very soon.

These prices are a bad deal.

The rate improves to 0.5 cents per point when you buy 52000 points or more (26k + 26k).

I bought points going through US TCB in February this year and the transaction became payable in April. I withdrew to their virtual visa card, and received a 5% bonus.

Although the terms of the virtual card state a 2% forex fee, no fee was applied above the visa exchange rate when I used the card online. A random US zip code and phone number were accepted.

Someone on here previously mentioned that when you downgrade from a paid plan to a free plan you continue to get the cashback. I can now confirm this.
