HFP ran an article on June 20th about a new IHG promotion where you could earn triple base points on certain stays.
I remember reading this and was intrigued as it mentioned ‘base’ points which I assumed meant qualifying for status. I’m certain I read the IHG offer on the IHG page and it also mentioned ‘base’ points so was pretty happy as I has a Voco stay upcoming which would, at 3 x base points, get me over the line for Diamond status.
The points have just posted from this stay but only the normal amount has been credited for elite status with the others just being treated as bonus points.
I’ve gone to find details of the original offer but can’t see anything about base points anymore and the link IHG chat gave me to the offer doesn’t mention anything about base points.
Did I imagine it? Rob, can you remember? Your summary in the atrticle specifically mentions base points but the link doesn’t work anymore.
I hate the way IHG describes their points. No idea what counts for status.
I happened to read the bit of the Ts & Cs that pertains to this last night as I got an email offering bonus points for my next weekend stay for my birthday and wondered if they’d be qualifying
The table in Section 22 says what does and doesn’t qualify

Sadly not the 3x for your Voco stay
T’s and C’s for the promotion- (my bolding)
For the 3X Unlimited Promotion, earning ‘3X’ or ‘3X bonus points’ on stays before 30 September 2025 means the total number of regular ‘base points’ and promotional ‘bonus points’ combined will equal three (3) times the base points the member would normally receive just for being an IHG One Rewards member. For example, under the 3X Unlimited Promotion, for a one-night Qualifying Stay with a room rate of $100 USD at an IHG hotel with a 10 points per USD earn rate for base points, the member would earn 1,000 base points (10 points x $100 = 1,000 points) and an additional 2,000 promotional bonus points, for a total of 3,000 points. The promotional bonus points under this Promotion are calculated based solely on the base points the member is eligible to earn for a Qualifying Stay just for being an IHG One Rewards member, and any Elite status bonus points or any other bonus or promotional points the member may be eligible to receive for the same stay are not included.

The bonus points awarded through this Promotion are not Elite status qualifying under the IHG One Rewards program.
There are so many promotions that it’s usually difficult to keep track!
Bonus points like this rarely count as qualifying for status and if / when they are they are specifically noted as such in the emails and when posted.
My CP stay last week posted as “earn 3x bonus points’ and not ‘base’
Though actually the bonus is 2x the base and adding them together gets you the 3x points.
