Does anyone have any thoughts on:
IC Madrid
Indigo Princesa
Voco Retiro
Crowne Plaza Retiro
I had a booking at the Indigo Gran Via for a King Suite with Panoramic View at the start of June but just had an email from the hotel saying that they are refurbishing the entire floor and have offered me a Premium room instead and €80 off the rate I had booked for the suite. €80 is roughly the difference between the two give or take, not worth the quibble
But I have the option to cancel so considering moving the booking. I booked there for the location as although it doesn’t really matter for this one night for me as it’s just an overnighter before my flight to LIM next day, I was using it as a reccy for either a potential family stay in autumn half term or a solo escape for my OH who pops to Madrid a few times a year
Opinions on whether I stick with the Indigo Gran Via and a lesser room, or move the booking would be welcomed
Depends on the price… and depends on where you want to be, since they are all in different parts of the city
Indigo Princesa rooms are tiny, don’t think it’s really suitable for a family stay, retiro might be better for that.
IC is probably more expensive but if you have lounge pass may be worth it
I’ve got the IC booked for July via Emyr, £200 pn including lounge access. Also the voco Retiro for early December, not stayed at either previously.

Yes indeed, I know (via OH) the area around the Indigo Gran Via, but no idea about Retiro hence wondering if anyone had a view e.g. the hotel is nice but the area isn’t well connected, dead at night etc etc. Good to know that Indigo Princesa on the small side though thanks that was probably my next choice given the area followed by the IC

Ooh that’s good! I might have a quick look what Emyr can get, thanks
Madrid does seem quite a bargain to visit at the height of summer, presumably due to the insane heat and locals leaving for the coast!
Not sure the coast is much better! We were in Almeria (city) the summer before last and had to spend the first three days pretty much indoors due to an extreme heatwave warning! Barcelona last August BH weekend was also too humid. We have decided to stick to Spain in the low season from now on
Madrid is much hotter than it used to be. But it is also dry heat so a pool refreshes you and at night it is nice. In Barcelona the humidity makes the whole 24hrs horrible. It is much hotter in Spain than it used to be.
Have you been to Galicia? Much cooler summers, hence we’re heading that way in August (via Madrid). Google Islas Cíes. Don’t tell anyone else though 😂
