We might be heading back for NYC for a 4 night stay in July; would prefer to stay at the Hilton Conrad Downtown as we loved it last time, but due to a potential problem with Hilton accounts, thought I would ask for any IHG recommendations, as I have a load of IHG points.
The only issue is we are 2 adults and 2 teens, so one small IHG room with 2 double beds will still be cramped compared to the space at the Conrad, where the lounge has a sofa bed which can be used.
Thanks in advance.
Wasn’t sure whether to use this thread, or destination advice, but decided to try this one first.
Is there a Staybridge Suites? I know it’s not on the same level as the Conrad but you’ll have plenty of space and all get free breakfast!

Great idea, but not on our dates in late July. Thanks.

Not any more, I stayed there a few times and it was great but it’s now a Hilton Delta.
Best bet for the OP is google maps. Centre on Times Sq, select hotel, then brand IHG and there’s 15 properties.
I wouldn’t consider anything that’s under 4.0/5
Also NYC will have limited and expensive options this close to the time. There’s a Candlewood Suites which I guess will be quite basic, but you might be able to book a studio suite on points then wangle an upgrade to the 1 bedroom suite which sleeps 4 if you’ve got status, or offering to pay the difference. It’s well located near Times Square. I don’t think you get breakfast but you’ll have some kitchen facilities.
Otherwise I’d say get 2 rooms somewhere if you’ve got enough points. Most available properties look to be around 50k points per night, whether it’s an IC or HIEX, such is the craziness that is IHG award pricing these days!
Thanks for the suggestions so far everyone. The 2 rooms option is what I expect will end up happening if we do use IHG; I may need to add a few points to my stash to cover that.
I knew there was a reason we try to get a suite for 3 rather than 2 rooms with IHG redemptions – resort fees!
I wouldn’t rely on booking a basic room then on getting an upgrade to a suite.
Have you adjusted the search criteria to include 2x adults and 2 x children (you then specify their ages) as that will get you the most appropriate offering?
But at the cheapest rooms you’re still going to be in 2 double beds that will be the cramped state you want to avoid. Even a suite can be cramped depending which hotrl it’s in.
I wasn’t particularly impressed with the Crowne Plaza HY36 Midtown Manhattan recently. Booked on points. Room and corridors felt old and worn out. Door handle was loose/falling off. The ventilation ducts allow you to hear anything above small volume coming from neighbouring rooms, channelling it through like some kind of sound tube – and I had a very noisy person in the opposite room the first night. Hotel sold out so there was nothing they could do (apart from telling them to keep the noise down which didn’t really work!). “free breakfast” for me as a Diamond was very limited, could choose one item plus one drink from the a la carte breakfast menu in the hotel restaurant. Wasn’t sure about the etiquette of tipping (or not) given that I was being served in a restaurant setting but wasn’t presented with a bill.
No resort fees charged on the redemption though.
@Flyer/Stayer, I meant sort out the upgrade before arrival, obviously. I’ve never had an issue doing this, (and always been upgraded for free even when I’ve offered to pay).
@Gavin454, I’m surprised you weren’t presented with a bill for the tip! This has happened to us on several occasions in the US when breakfast was included in the room rate or free due to status. You also did well avoiding the resort fee.
Some general info here on hotel rooms in NYC that have big room space (not specific to IHG): https://bigrooms.travel/2024/04/top-5-hotels-in-manhattan-perfect-for-large-families-and-groups/
To be honest, I cannot think of one I would recommend. I have stayed at a number of IHG properties in NYC and found them all to be very average. My biggest disappointment was the Intercontinental in Time Square last March (2024). It was OK but given the brand reputation and price it was not what I expected
