With my saga last week with CP Kings X cancelling my reservation, then IHG moving me to a Mr & Mrs Smith, then the room could not accommodate 2 adults and 2 children, they are now saying they don’t refund the voucher, but are giving me 40k points instead.
Should I fight for the voucher back (that expires in 14 days) or ask for more points. My reasoning would be the CP Kings X 47k points and my last redemption at Park Lane costs 99k points for a random date in Feb.
Could you negotiate to have them comp you the Park Lane night instead?

I think IHG should comp you a full night in the hotel of your choice, anywhere. And of course you should make it one that would otherwise cost you waaaaay more than a miserable 40k. The reason is, all they’ve done is fix their own problem. They also need to provide a “sorry”.
Hearing about your experience I’m pretty much classing IHG in the same rubbish rotten-customer-service-never-fix-anything category as Accor. Which is a very bad place to be.

You are allowed to get the voucher back if you normally cancel so I don’t see why you shouldn’t have it back, assuming you have a hotel to book worth more than 40k
This is their ruling according to their message to me. What they fail to understand is that I never asked for a 2-person room which the clown of an agent put me in. They don’t want to admit they are wrong and change their rules I guess.
In addition, the free night that you supposed to use for December 11-12, 2021 reservation is not been returned to your account yet due to Mr and Mrs Smith cancellation policy on free night reservation.
