    Thanks

Confirmable Suite Upgrade cannot be stacked with guaranteed upgrades for Royal Ambassador, Ambassador, and Inner Circle Members, any additional upgrades are at the discretion of the hotel

IC has rules but not all hotels follow them. I cant speak for IC Honkers as I can’t go there anymore. Was upgraded massively last two stays in Thailand from rooms to a beach pool villa ac IC Samui and a walled pool suite at IC Phuket over last two years, both as RA. Also doesnt work; IC Sydney give me the same junior suite, partial harbour bridge view each time I use the upgrade certificate (used 4 or 5 over the last few years) which makes me think its the room they save for them.

If you have a special reason for the upgrade; make sure the hotel knows before you go

Have you looked on Flyertalk to see if there is a thread on this hotel? They discuss this stuff exhaustively on there!

Interesting about IC Sydney, was going to use the upgrade voucher for an upcoming stay. Is it a different suite to those listed on the site? Can’t see junior suite option.

On the IC Sydney website they upgraded me to one of these ” 1 King 1 Bedroom Suite Bridge View. ” 64sq/m

Thanks all for the replies. My ambassador has lapsed couple of days ago and was tempted into renewing it purely for the further upgrade on this stay (in 10 days) but seems it’s hit and miss so on that basis won’t renew and save the $225 for now

As a Diamond Ambassador for 3 years (until 31/12/2024) I only ever had 1-cat upgrades in all my IC stays, so AMB effectively only gave me 4pm checkout and 1 free weekend night each year (with a significantly higher rate for the paid night to cancel out much of the saving).

Even as Accor Silver I get better upgrades than what IHG usually offers.

But 1 cat upgrade is the AMB guarentee (yes with the points if they can’t exception)

CSUs can give multi cat upgrades because I’ve had them

It’s a case of whats more important to you either the CSU or the AMB benefits.

Where are you staying? As the same status, I typically get 2-3 cat upgrades. During my SE Asia trip, I generally got Jr Suite everywhere I went from base room, while in Europe I typically get the top room under a Jr Suite, unless the hotels are full.

Yes, but that’s the point – I got the minimal 1-cat upgrade that AMB gets anyway and so Diamond didn’t make any difference here (even as Platinum they’d have to give me that).

Dace seems to be having better luck than me at least.

Is this at ICs only – as ICs are on average less likely to give multi-cat upgrades to anyone except RA, or frequent stayers at their own property.

They are not obliged to give Diamond anything and when I am not AMB, I often get no upgrade at IC (as I have plenty of CSUs and mostly don’t require the other benefits of AMB I have not bothered to pay it for some time)

HI, CP, Voco I almost always get a suite or the best non-suite

Tend not to get suites at Indigo but I think they have fewer suites overall

As an update to the original post, I asked nicely over email, explained the event around the booking and they kindly upgraded to the best suite they have, so more than happy with the eventual result.

Stayed in CPs many times across EMEA/Asia as Diamond and never got a suite, even in some places where I knew they had pretty much zero occupancy.

Out of the top tier treatment for Hilton (Diamond for 2018-2023), Marriott and IHG, Marriott has been by far the most generous for upgrades (either as Platinum or Titanium).

I’m gonna shoot for Accor Plat with the Signature programme this year and see how that goes in Asia next year.

In fact I did get a suite on two occasions (both at ICs) but only because..

    1) I used a CSU
    2) I booked a Club Room one category below a suite as AMB, so they had to upgrade me to suite level.

But I was never comped a suite upgrade anywhere at IHG in the 9 years I used it.

Thanks – just called and they only had a City View suite, but better than nothing!
