Forums Hotel loyalty schemes IHG One Rewards IHG suite upgrade vouchers – any feedback so far?

I have an upgrade voucher. In general, are these are the rules or am I missing something? >>> Must book using flex rate (can use corp/rail code). Must be 2 nights+. Not transferable. Can only be used at Intercontinetals.

Suite night upgrades earned as a milestone reward can be used at any IHG hotel and not restricted to ICs.

It’s the ambassador weekend voucher that’s restricted to ICs only.

Has there been any reports of those booking through a Virtuoso agent or through the IHG LUX programme being able to use the suite upgrades?

What I’ve seen so far indicates that even corporate rates can’t be used, let alone stuff like Virtuoso. Several people have said they could only get the CSU accepted by changing to a vanilla BAR rate.

I did qualify for a voucher 🙂 Sounds like they work OK with the railcard rate? And no way of knowing which rooms are included without phoning IHG?

Thanks BA Flyer IHG Stayer. I didn’t appreciate that.

My experience just now – booked flex rate for Classic room (5 nights) at IC Perth. Phoned given number for Europe – went through to Philippines (?) After holding, agent came back with – that’s confirmed- Premium Corner view room (which is probably the upgrade I would have received as a Royal Amb) Of course, I had checked first to find 2 types of Junior Suites & one Penthouse Suite which I presumed would be excluded. So my reply was – No, that’s not a Suite, there are 5 J Suites available. Long hold & she comes back, Yes, J Suite confirmed but then she couldn’t save it, so had to consult the Awards Desk. Finally, received email with changed booking showing J Suite. Significant price point difference – 272+ AUD against average 821+ (Premium Corner was 360+)

It’s a shame you can’t just click on something when you make a booking that submits a suite upgrade request.
Bit of a faff having to ring up, and hope for the best. I’ve still no idea if the room I might have got upgraded to as an ambassador would be the same thing as a suite upgrade, so you could be wasting your voucher.

Same with the lounge access. This should be automatic rather than having to show the app to a hotel to get it added when you check in.

You would only be getting an upgrade at the IC anyway as Ambassador. The voucher is good for any IHG hotel, so you’re better off using it at Kimptons, Regents or better CPs.

    What’s the railcard rate? 🙂

I use it all the time.

Well, I used to — work is no longer requiring me to travel the length and breadth of the UK every week! Six weeks of no hotels! Whilst we’re all here for the points opportunities I have to say I’m delighted 😁

@memesweeper thanks I’ll have to give it a go!

OT but somewhat relevant. I have diamond from credit card points from several years ago which I’ve rolled over using the Ambassador shuffle. Upon using a virtuoso agent I’ve had good upgrades at Kimpton’s especially. Also at the Manchester Kimpton whilst in the bar I received what I suspect is the standard text asking if I required anything. Thinking fat chance they will do anything I asked if they could get the bar to stock some olive juice so I could have a dirty martini. Found two cocktails waiting in my room free of charge which definitely impressed me. In reality I think these things are pot luck but a chain really installs loyalty when they get these things right 🙂

Booked best flexible rate for the Bath Hotel Indigo, but central office can’t use the suite upgrade voucher as the rate was “guaranteed” to the hotel, whatever that means?!

This was 48 hours ago, when they said they would ring back in 15 minutes, but didn’t. Rang back today and central office still have the same problem.

Based on this evidence, I’m not sure these rewards are worth much.

Huh. When I asked for milk in the fridge, I got – milk in the fridge 😂. Going to ask for some mojito ingredients next time! Though having actual milk pleases me enormously.

Slightly painful converstion to do this. Partly a bad line and partly because misunderstanding on the agents part on what I wanted to do but have been upgraded from a King Premium View to 1 bedroom suit at the IC in San Frencisco.

5 nights stay using rail card rate (which wasn’t even mentioned in the call). Checking the booking before I called I’d already been upgraded to a corner room and was expecting to be declined because of that.

She told me very clearly what suites were available so I was able to check on the app which one I wanted.

This is a proper upgrade not just a slightly better room .

    V happy.
