Forums Other Destination advice Immigration queues at Newark

We’re due to fly with a 6 month old in Sept, visiting friends and family in NY/NJ from the UK. Has anyone had any recent experience on what immigration is like at the US border?

When i arrived at EWR around 1pm, the hall was completely empty, and was out in less than 5 minutes without any Queue at all.

Took about 2 hours last September and was by far the worse experience ive ever had. We landed in the evening and there was one border guard on duty, think i was just unlucky

You should be able to generate immigration waiting times report for main US airports here: https://awt.cbp.gov/

We arrived on BA181 around 10pm, queue time was no longer than 10 mins (although we were the first off the plane)

There is no answer to a question like this.

It depends how many staff are on duty, how many phoned in sick for their shift. How many planes are due in at the same time, how many are earlier or late. And also very much whether you’re quick off the plane or at the back behind 2-300 others off your flight. How was the weather etc.

You can get average wait times from the app and see previous days but lots of other factors are in play.
