Sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere but:
I used a promotion last year to upgrade to a personal Platinum card. It was worth it for the bonus points but not worth retaining. I could in theory have cancelled and got a pro-rata fee refund but I never got around to it, and yesterday was the card anniversary.
Not wanting to pay the fee without the bonus I used the chat function on the website to request a downgrade to Gold, and they instead offered me 50k points to keep the card which seems like a very good deal (and I accepted it).
Has anyone else had this?
